Default covering one eye when reading

I had a weird setback, hard to pin down to an event. Although the day before the setback I tried to converge my eyes to the extreme without the guidance of a hand (woke with with a headache, and so far symptoms lasted 2 weeks). MY VT told me to always use a finger when converging.

I saw my vision therapist (VT) and he said my convergence (insufficiency) has never been that bad. Things i was able to converge quickly too 6 months ago, are now seen only double. He said my eyes need rest and not to restart therapy until I am a bit better.

I rested my eyes for 2 weeks. In fact closing eyes for 2 hours each day, sitting next to a creek for 2 hours, rooftop 2 hours, screen time<2h.

I still feel eye strain. Do you think it is OK to work covering one eye at a time. Something like this:
Amazon.com : Flents Eye Patch - 3 Pack : Eye Drops : Beauty

and switch between left and right. Anyone tried? Would that reduce eyestrain (since eyes do not have to work in tandem?)
