Every single time I bump my head, I set off symptoms. I know it's anxiety and my body's response, and being terrified of being set back.
But last night, I was bending down to plug my bath drain, and got up and turned quick and smacked the front of my head on the sharp corner of the towel rack. I tried to "mimic" the hit with my arm and have huge bruises - it was a really hard, sharp corner. I just moved to NYC with a new job and have no shot of staying home and resting. What can anyone tell me about the force needed to ACTUALLY sustain a concussion? How can I justify these types of hits and know that I have not actually gotten another one? I'm really foggy today, keep misspelling things, can't think straight, have bad headaches and my vision is off. Do we think this was another concussion? It was a hard sharp hit to right above my forehead area. I just want to know how likely it is and how hard you need to hit to actually have one. Help. I feel so helpless. |

Please see this new thread - it may be helpful -
https://www.neurotalk.org/traumatic-...-disorder.html A sharp corner hit to the head would most likely make an open wound before any concussion.. Re enacting a hit??. ![]()

If you hit the towel rack hard enough to cause a concussion, you would have damaged the towel rack. It takes 60 Gs to cause a concussion. Could you stand on or hang you body from the towel rack? No, it would come off the wall. The sharp corner triggered a lot of nerve pain from the nerves in the skin. The startle triggered anxiety that brought on all of your symptoms. The fact that you tried to mimic the hit and bruised your arm suggests you are wrapped in anxiety. That is an OCD reaction. The bruises have no bearing on concussive forces. Please seek help with your anxiety. CBT to teach you a new thought pattern after a head bump would be beneficial. My best to you.

Thank you both. I found a therapist in my area that specializes in concussion anxiety, and hoping to work on the symptoms that arise even with a minor head bump.
It's such a hard ride and I need to get my anxiety under control to make it bearable. Definitely part of the somatic anxiety symptoms that were linked here. |
