Default ringing in ears

Does anyone else have tinnitus. I have had it since fall four months now. The headaches are lighter and the ringing is lighter in the morning but as the day progresses here they are full strength. I know it is 2 -3 Oclock because wham
here they are much heavier. I have finished muscle therapy and massage therapy cause insurance is donenow. Im trying accupuncture. He is really busy so I have only gone two times. Like everything else it doesn't seem to do much. I am on some chinese tea but again not much difference on the headaches. I know that the neck from the fall is related but when will we feel better. I haven't seen my doctor in months so I am going on Monday to see if I should take some time off or does it really help at all. Sometimes at this point I don't ever feel that I am going to have a normal feeling head again. Opps that's a little sad face showing.Of course no one at work wants to hear about it any more and can't beleive Im not milking this. Yeah right, I am the type that never quits. I did start back to running this week in the morning. Its went okay and doesn't make me feel worse. I miss exercise so much. Everything is turning soft instead of muscle.i know I will never run outside in winter in Canada again. Nothing is worth this again. Does any one else have the headaches, the only few problems are writing names and phone numbers when someone is saying them fast and pain in the neck area. Well that's my feelings tonight. Talk to you all soon.

...You’re not alone!

I have had tinnitus since my injury. It is worse for me at night too although I have met people who find it worse in the morning.

What is muscle therapy and massage therapy that you had?

I have been told that Hopi ear candles make a difference. Likewise anything that you find relaxing since stress seems to turn up the volume for me.

Might be worth meeting people with tinnitus, as not even my friends and family can really understand. I can appreciate what you’re saying about colleagues thinking that you’re trying to milk it. I know that this could not possibly be the case.

I have met people at the local tinnitus association and these folk are pulling their hair out when this is their only health issue let alone having all the problems with PCS on top-it is a hard deal.

Good Luck and keep sane!

Karly-

I am having the same issue. I have just completed my fifth month of healing since my head hit a rock mountain climbing. I too am highly active - and cannot get the ear ringing to stop. I have taken six months medical leave -- and am afraid I will need to deal with this permanently.

I wish I had answers. I have tried running and cycling - both don't make the ringing worse - but I do get worse symptoms about three hours afterward. Keep me posted what you find.

I also have tinnitis....all day and night. My husband's snoring masks it a bit!! I have had it since the beginning 8 months ago.

I find it so annoying to wear earplugs because it makes it sound so much louder.

Diane,

Karly hasn't been around in quite some time. At the header above the post, it shows the date of the her post post (June 2008).

Tinnitus is a very common symptoms from PCS. I have had it for decades. It comes and goes. Sometimes, it is just a background sound that is easy to ignore. Other times, it is outright annoying.

My ears ring at a frequency between C6# and D6 on a piano keyboard. It has been the same pitch for many years so this tells me the sound has a fixed nature to it.

One of the symptoms of PCS is an inability for the brain to filter out background sounds. This may be the cause for tinnitus. In the past, the brain filtered this sound so it was not consciously heard. With that filter mechanism in dysfunction, the sound makes it to the conscious level.

BEWARE, Don't get tempted to spend money on the scam sold on TV called Quietus. It is a bunch of expensive junk that does not have any effect on tinnitus. By the time you know it is not working, they have auto-shipped and billed your credit card you three months worth.

I have a fish aquarium with a bubbler in my bed room. It seems to mask the constant test tone in my ears and sounds from the reast of the house.for me it also is a relaxation aid.it sounds like a small brook. Hope this helps.

I have ringing also. I had it prior to head injury and it got worse after injury. I have a fan running in my room and in the summer we have window units (air conditioners) and that helps. Other than that I have not found anything to help. They sell "white noise" machines, I think they sound like static, I think that sound would be more annoying. I saw a Ear, Nose and Throat doc and he told me there is nothing to be done and that it will only get worse with age. Yay!!

I had it for 17 years, but didn't notice it much til after my recent TBI.

Now I hear it in a quiet room, and wonder if it affects my equilibrium.

Not nearly annoying as my head pain, though.

There's a group at Daily Strength forums for it.

No cure.
