I am terribly sorry to hear of your partners condition. If you are unable to receive information via email, if you have the authorization/power of attorney to do so, I'd call their doctor and request a telephone conference so that you can ask your questions and have them answered.

If there is someone else who has that authority , hoping that you are on good terms with them, should be able to discuss the prognosis with the doctor and tell you and/or allow you to be part of the conference.

I don't believe that a 'lay' person has the ability to answer your question.
