Default HELP!! Multiple teeth hurt, all over my mouth.

I was diagnosed with TN and it finally "went away" for awhile about 6 months ago. I was taking Carbamazepine 200mg, 3 tablets a day. It worked GREAT!!!

Fast forward to the last few weeks and it is back. Today was my worst case yet, 5 teeth on the upper left side hurt bad, then the lower front teeth (several) hurt, NOW the bottom right side has multiple teeth hurting.

Have any of you had this much of a problem? At one time? My dentist says my teeth are fine. THREE different areas hurting at once. I don't mean to whine & complain, but this is a bit much.

Next question is, if you are on Carbamazepine, what is the max amount you took in one day?

Default Teeth pain

Hi, I'm sorry to read about your chronic pain from your teeth, it sounds as though you're having a terrible time it must be agonising.
I'm assuming at this stage that you are no longer taking the carbamezapine, is that correct? Its good that by taking 200mg x 3 that your TN pain was under control, but now it seems to have returned with a vengeance and I sympathise.
I'd hate to think that you are having a bilateral problem, I would advise to get this checked out as quickly as possible and seek help from a neurologist as you should not have to suffer so badly. The quicker you get your name on the list the better.
In the past I've taken up to 2200mg daily, I couldn't function properly of course and spent most of my time in bed, and that was the stage that I had an mvd. But as always it was with strict supervision and regular blood tests and most certainly not recommended!

Bayley, I am still on the Carbamazepine 200mg and back on Neurontin.

I called my Neurologist last night, got his young partner. This Dr. said to take another Carbamazepine and 600mg of Neurontin. My teeth still hurt when I went to bed. I woke up this morning --- so dizzy I can barely walk. BUT my teeth don't hurt.

What is a MVD? There is no list to get on, I will get an MRI asap, but the last few have not helped much.

I am a mess. So many medical problems I should be the subject on the TV show "Dr. House". Cardiac, Respiratory (CCHS, VCD, COPD), Urinary Tract, Carpal Tunnel from my upper back injury, MCI (see Mayo Clinic's website), Neurological (PN, TN), drank drano when I was 3 years old, so my Esophagus and stomach do not allow any spices or warm drinks like coffee, I had false teeth at 4 years old, just had oral surgery where they cut off the roof of my mouth and sewed it on my gums, to cover the nerves. I was already on Morphine for my Lower Back injury, wound up taking so many opiates (500-600mg a day) for mouth pain I could not remember how to swallow a mouth full of Chicken Soup. Another time it took my wife and an RN 30 minutes to wake me up. I knew they wanted me to wake up, but I could not remember how. BUT I am still lucky. I have a wife who loves me, all 5 kids love me, my Service Dog loves me, I have a full stomach and a warm bed. Life is good.

I had this happen about two weeks ago. I thought for sure I needed to go see the dentist but within three days the pain subsided a little and radiated all over the mouth and I canceled the appointment. My lower right side was hurting and my upper was hurting. By day two, all my teeth were hurting. I do have TMJ and wondered if it was acting up. My sinuses are also bad so could be related. I knew when all the teeth started hurting it was something more than a toothache. I had xrays 6 months ago and all was fine and the dentist agreed and said come in if it starts up again. Hope your better soon.

SandyC, I am sorry to hear about your problems. This is not something I want to share with anyone because the pain level is just too high.

I hope you get well and stay that way. I feel fine today. With my CNS and PNS, I no longer care why I feel better, I just want to. In fact, I am going to lay down in a few minutes. Take care.......

Default Increase in meds

Hi again, sorry to only just be getting back to you. I'm glad to hear that you teeth don't hurt with the increase in your meds, although that does seem quite a jump, I usually increased the carb by 200mg each time, if only for 4/5 days then another increase. Only because it does whack you and sends you into a bit of a tailspin unfortunately, which you've figured! I'm not sure if this helps and you'll probably know this info anyway but if you look on the following link under carbamezapine you will find a word document by the University Collete London Hospital on how they reckon the drug should be taken and other useful advice....http://www.tna.org.uk/pages/drug_guidance.http.html
MVD (microvascular decompression) is a procedure that is offered to TN sufferers very often to relieve the artery or vein that compresses the nerve root (which may or may not show up in an MRI) at the point that it leaves the brain. Medication can often offer relief but can also be ineffective, or the side effects can be unbearable. The procedure involves opening the skull where the nerve is exposed, and inserting a sponge between the vessel and nerve that are causing the pain.
You mentioned 'House' and I've looked forward to the day that a TN case may be on this programme!
