Hi Tasha,
The Topiramate (Topamax) I take large doses of for Cluster Headaches has the benefit of cutting the pain down by 25-40%. The numbness is still there, with my Neuropathic Facial Pain, but these are eased as well. Good luck with your Neuro appt. Let us know how it goes. Dave.

Hi again everyone. Just giving an update on my appointment. The neurologist agrees with the Urgent Care doc that this is TN. He prescribed me Carbamazepine, chewable which is disgusting lol but hey if it helps I'm cool with that. He also wants me to start taking Vit B OTC. I'm to go back for a follow up in 3 weeks. He says it should start working after a few days. I haven't had an episode since last night, though I'm sure it has nothing to do with the medicine since I've only taken 3 doses. He says its really good and will stop the pain completely after a few days. I'm hoping he's right because going through these forums I see many people still dealing with the pain while on medication. But here's to wishful thinking! He also doesn't seem concerned that it is due to anything serious as I had originally feared.
Thanks again everyone ![]() |

Hi Tasha,
Both happy and sad that you have a dx of TN from your Neuro. At least it gets you on the proper meds, but it is a prideful boast from your Neuro that this will stop it completely - and pride cometh before a fall. I do hope he is right, but only time will tell. Whatever you do, do not stop the meds thinking you are clear of Attacks if they do go away. Only ever change your regimen under supervision of your Neuro. Wishing you countless pain free days. Dave.
