Talk to me, thinking about getting some for Jim but want to buy the right kind. Here's an article I read today. Or is it a fad?

I think ginger is wonderful. I started using it as a anti-nausea solution over a decade ago, because of my twisted GI tract. It works for my upsets better than RX medications!
I get mine at Puritan's Pride, during their sales. 100 caps run about $5.00 there. There is only one drawback to ginger....it can reflux back and burn if you lie down after taking, or if you take it with alot of food and it sits on top of the stomach and dissolves high up near the esophagus, etc. Take with a good amount of water (not just one swallow) and remain upright for at least 45 minutes after and not on a totally full stomach (some food is okay). This is a pretty complete monograph on it: http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/ginger-000246.htm Its most concerning interaction is its potential for thinning the blood or interacting with blood thinner drugs.

Thanks MrsD. Jim takes an aspirin nightly, 81 mgs, so I think he'll be OK. Have you noticed a difference in your pain level as well? Jim's having major stomach issues as well, has lost too much weight, so it's great to hear it also helps in digestion.
PS: How many a day do you take?

I've never taken it for inflammation. I only use it for my stomach and if I am going well, I don't take any.
Alot of the information about inflammation, is rather new. I use antioxidants mostly for my arthritis. Grapeseed extract and Krill oil. So I cannot vouch for the inflammation claims. What kind of inflammation are we talking about here? Vascular? Joint, etc?

I guess you'll just have to try it... It is not expensive and the most common negative thing is the reflux/heartburn.
It is not a dangerous substance, so give it a try.

Start at one a day... for a week. Watch for anything you don't like or want. Increase to 2 a day, and watch...
You might see improvement at lower doses so start low. Typical extract is 500mg/cap

Sandy
My son drinks Ginger tea and uses ginger in food too to help with inflammation etc from Crohn's Disease. He considers it an essential part of his natural anti-inflammatory diet.
