does 5htp take a while to kick in like ssris? cause i know initially with ssris most start off with insomnia generally. its going to be mentioned at the doctors office, i dont take flexeril anymore.

I think 5HTP is going to have a brief lag time in response. It has to be converted to serotonin. But perhaps not as long a lag as SSRIs have.
I found 5HTP irritating even at a low dose. I tried it long ago. So I dropped it. Some people find it useful however, so you will have to try and see.

5HTP can also vary in reaction within the same person!
when my son was younger (pre-teen) it was very helpful for him re OCD but when he tried it again a few years later, it made him very edgy and spaced out

We take 5HTP in the evening or just before bed to improve sleep. The quickest way for it be effective is to open the capsule and dissolve the contents under your tongue as that's where the largest blood vessel is. I read about amino acids and such supplements in the Diet Cure by Julia Ross.
