Default Need input for a friend

My friend (who is also my beautician) is a type two diabetic. She has her sugar very controlled and all her blood work comes back fine.

But at about 3 in the afternoon she says she crashes. She took her blood sugar and it was 119. I said 'well, it's not your sugar, what about your blood work, anything kick out as abnormal?" She said 'no all my blood work was fine" I then had a light bulb moment and asked "What is your B-12 level?"

And she perked up and said "Oh yes, I talked to the doctor about that because of what you told me, and the doctor said 'you are perfect"

So I again asked 'What is perfect in his eyes?"

Her B-12 level is 500

I said "Mila, that is NOT perfect, that is low". She then said 'Oh no, he told me the levels are between 300 and 900 and I'm right in the middle so I'm perfect"

I gently said "Mila, your doctor is wrong, doctors practice medicine they DO NOT practice nutrition, and have you been taking your Methyl B-12?"

She said "I keep forgetting to take it but he said my B-12 is perfect"

So I said "Okay, listen to me, I'm going to post this on the forum and let's see what the experts have to say on your B-12 level, okay"?

She said: "fine'

Experts????? And because all her other blood work is fine, can this 500 number be the reason she is crashing in the afternoon. She eats correctly by the way. She's 5 feet 7, weighs 129, has a beautiful figure and otherwise is perfectly fine. She's 55 years young.

lol

Is she taking metformin?

Many people crash in the afternoon. That is why the Brits have tea time!

This is the first dip in cortisol for the 24 hr day.

Beauticians also suffer alot of standing stress, and handling and smelling all those chemicals! I've known some who get carpal tunnel too.

It is hard to say what is going on with her, but sometimes a glucose reading doesn't reflect what the body wants. Insulin resistance involves blood sugars that cannot get into cells.
So the person may test a bit high, but the cells are still sending starving signals.

A reading of 500 is not "bad", but it may be borderline if she is taking metformin or using acid blocking drugs. It may be coming down, at the time of the test, from a higher number.
The B12 can't hurt, but it may not fix her fatigue.

Thanks Mrs. D.

She is on Lantus and Janumet (combination of Januvia and Metformin I believe).

I will tell her what you wrote.

And thanks so much
