Caroline... you must realize that some radio personalities or guests are just there to promote their products. The Radio and/or TV is not the best place to learn about supplements or drugs.
This product has in the "inert ingredients" the very supplements BEST for neuropathy... and with no doses. That makes no sense. How can methylcobalamin be "inert"? This deceptive labeling tells me the whole product is suspect and deceptive.

I'm posting on the vit/supp group, and No I'm not a doctor but have been working with alternatives for over 25 yrs....I trust them more than pharma...as I have said I have felt and seen enough harm from pharma. I do not go on and on about the harm from pharma drugs. I've seen figures of over 100,000 deaths from drug interactions annually.
On this late night radio there are many alternative docs and practioners on that program. I was not born yesterday and just putting it out as so many here are in so much nerve pain. Thanks for all your comments thou. |

Adding to this discussion, the TGA is the Australian equivalent of the FDA.
This quote may be relevant (the emphases are mine): "(2) Vitamins An advertisement for vitamins shall not imply that vitamin supplements: (a) are a substitute for good nutrition or a balanced diet; or (b) are in any way superior to or more beneficial than dietary nutrients or that normal health may be affected by not taking vitamin supplements." Source: https://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2007L00576 . What I have emphasised sums up my opinion of vitamin supplements. They are unlikely to be of much benefit to somebody who eats in a healthy way unless (of course) there is medical evidence which suggests otherwise.

I'm personally not interested in what the TGA has to say because when you see in retrospect that a family member was left for years and years with a B12 level hovering around 160pmol/L during her late teenage years and young adult years during which time she had so many serious health issues and not one of her 6 doctors ever bothered to mention to her that the "hole in her brain" as she called it was probably due to her Vitamin B12 levels. And here we still are years later trying to fix the negligence and having to do that all by ourselves again. That is just one tiny example that's happened with my son and daughter and myself. I could go on but won't. If I didn't have the ability to figure out what is safe and what is not, I certainly wouldn't take anything as I'm known for being ultra conservative with regard to anything that I consume. I'll have to agree to disagree with the TGA and with you about (b) in particular. with respect, Lara Last edited by Lara; 08-16-2015 at 02:21 AM. |

Oh gosh, no apologies needed kiwi. I respect your opinions very much.
I know you meant well and were addressing the OT. I'm the one who ventured off topic. Last edited by Lara; 08-16-2015 at 03:32 AM. |

The trouble with global rules as Kiwi posted.... is that there are medical conditions that doctors do not attend to, as Lara points out.
The foremost I see today in the medical literature is the DNA genetic error that impairs methylation. MTHFR polymorphisms. These are more common than previously thought, and eating well will not fix this and the person will continue to decline. Dr. Bruce Ames PhD has published that he believes that there are many undiscovered genetic flaws in metabolism of just the B complex vitamins. He published this before the MTHFR information became readily available. Many of our vitamins come to us in food as INACTIVE forms. Cobalamins folic acid pyridoxine (B6) B5 B1 betacarotene (converts to Vit A) These are the most common...and all require different enzyme systems to activate them in humans. Eating a good diet and having any one or more of these genetic errors will lead to various deficiencies. This is why some supplement makers are including the active forms of the above vitamins in their products. In effect some people will starve in the midst of plenty and doctors and patients have no clue as to why. And also people with inflamed GI tracts from Candida or pathological bacterial overgrowth, will also become malabsorbers and not even absorb the nutrients in the foods they consume. So I really have a problem with those Government based statements of eat right and you won't need vitamins. Those comments are just not globally applicable to everyone equally. Products like the one linked in the first post here are very dangerous. How in the world can the inert ingredients in it be labeled this way? Inert ingredients are added to products to increase their volume and make the manufacturing process easier and more accurate. They include flow enhancers like magnesium stearate, magnesium oxide, etc. In the inert category, should be a listing of what diluted the homeopathic ingredients...but of course, that is missing in the listing. People might take such a product thinking they are getting B12 but since no dose is provided it may be a really pittance of a dose like 10mcg...and hence provide little if any benefit orally. They would use this thinking they were doing "the right thing" since the price is high and suggests quality. Everyone wanting to use supplements must learn about labeling and determining quality of products. This is essential to safety in using them, and success with benefits.

When one is considering buying online...from a supplement company it pays to look the company up for complaints.
Because on the site linked to here, the pricing offered is similar to other places that are known for scamming customers. Sure enough there are many complaints about New Vitality: The link I want to share contains a naughty word however, so our software censors it. I found it on Google using "new vitality complaints" Most of these are about the Beta Prostate product they make but the scams are all about money and lack of refunds when requested. example: Quote:
Here is another link with similar complaints.. http://www.complaintsboard.com/compl...y-c254126.html Yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/new-vitality-farmingdale This is far more than I usually find online in the "scam or complaint" searches I do. Buyer beware! If you decide to use this product anyway in spite of the complaints out there use a card that is not renewable or it appears you will be auto charged by this company without your permission.

mrsD, you sure have done your homework....you have more energy than I could ever drum up. Back in 2013, I had 4 great months of pain relief from a supp called Anatabloc. The Supplement Geek blog had a long blog on it and many talked about how they were benefitting from it. My daughter with collapsed foot tendons was doing good with it too... it is an inflammation modulator.
Many with crohns and other auto immune conditions were benefitting, it was pricey. But people were getting HELP... Then along the way the company owner and the governor of Va got into bed with this supp and the fit hit the shan.... You may have seen all the mess from this product. As I said I got 4 great months and then it stopped working for me. Those months were so good that I was even thinking of flying back east to see my sister which had not been in my mind for many moons. But it stopped working. The product is off the market, it was sold by GNC, Amazon and the company itself. And produced on the east coast, forget exactly where. There are many desperate people out there seeking help and all the drugs they have been taking are not doing them any good. The company Rock Creek Pharma is still around and I'm on the lookout to see if it come backs somehow. I'd give it a try again. Maybe you've seen all this hub hub on Anatabloc. But for me, it gave me 4 months of sheer great feeling in my body and mind. |
