Just had my annual exam with primary care doctor about two weeks ago. All the routine blood work, CBC, CMP, etc. It appears that he had included cortisol in his lab orders. The labs were drawn at 9 AM, FASTING. My cortisol level came back so low it was almost non-existent. I had my routine appt. with my endocrinologist this morning and he had been given a copy of the lab results from my primary care doctor. He said my cortisol result made no sense when all other factors were considered. He asked if I was experiencing any nausea, vomiting, etc. He thinks it is a lab "mistake" and has ordered another fasting lab draw for tomorrow morning for cortisol and ACTH. My primary had also noted to repeat the testing. At this point in time, I agree that this looks like a "mistake" by the lab. We will see what my results are from tomorrow's testing. Also, using a different lab. I just thought when I saw this thread, how funny, that it should be on NT today of all days. Thanks for your post. I will let you know my next results. Hopeless |

Thank you for the recording of these frequencies. Very relaxing! I find vibrational healing approaches often very supportive to healing. I also find vibrational healing approaches quite fascinating. DejaVu |

Hi Hopeless
You might find the information about the cortisol circadian rhythm in this (slightly technical) article useful the next time that you see your primary care doctor and/or endocrinologist; http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3475279/ .

I hadn't come across this article before. The day curve analysis graphs were very useful - better than the ones I found a few years back when I had my analysis done. The info on the delayed release cortisol was interesting too - not available here yet but is discussed. One day soon maybe . . . |

I appreciate this thread and all contributions.
I need to understand more about this. Thanks so much, everyone, for the helpful information! Jo*Mar, I apologize. I should have written, "Thanks for the link to the recording..." It's a very enjoyable piece. I am hoping to work it into my daily regimen. To Our Healing, DejaVu |

Thanks for the article. I have a fair understanding of the very basics of cortisol and ACTH but beyond that, I am at a loss. Read most of the article but skimmed the parts that were "over my head". I know that high levels may be indicative of certain diseases, and low levels may be indicative of others. I understand the circadian rhythm and the effect on levels. Beyond that, I let the rest up to the docs that understand this bio-chemistry. I did not sleep well last night. Do you think that may affect my test today? I was fasting and the draw was about 7:50 this morning. Won't get the results until next week. The repeat of the test was (as far as I am concerned), to satisfy my docs more than me. I am not the least bit concerned since I do not feel that I have any reason to think I have any of the diseases or symptoms of them, that are related to low (or high) cortisol levels. I would really be "shocked" to be told that I have anything to be concerned about regarding my cortisol level of <0.1 because I, too, think it was a lab mistake. Just looked back at the last time my cortisol level was drawn and the result was 10.1 back in June of 2012. (It, too, was a fasting morning level.) These were both serum levels, not urinary tests. I really do appreciate you taking the time to provide the link for me. Thanks so much for your posts. Last edited by Hopeless; 08-21-2015 at 01:09 PM. Reason: Added prior result from 2012 |

Hi Hopeless
"I did not sleep well last night. Do you think that may affect my test today?" This is a bit outside my expertise but I doubt it. Most circadian rhythms are linked to dark/night (low retinal stimulation) compared to light/day (high retinal stimulation) - probably your poor sleep will not be a major factor. "I, too, think it was a lab mistake." That would be my call - mistakes happen. I hope that you get reassuring answers when the results come back.
