Question taurine helps magnesium absorption? -neuro optimizer?

I recently read that taurine helps magnesium absorption. is there any truth to this?

I also have been reading up on taurine lately and came upon a jarrow formulas neuro optimizer circa $35.00.

Now this seems a little overpriced and steep, but when I read the ingredients I understood why. Some good stuff in there. But still the one drawback to this is the 4 caplet dosing. I don't have time to sit around and take 4 caplets a day. Is there anything out there similar to this and just as good quality with less caplets??

Lightbulb That product

has alot of expensive ingredients. That is why the price is high, relatively.

Taurine + magnesium is available as magnesium taurate.

http://www.drhoffman.com/page.cfm/519
this one is relatively expensive for what you get.
You can take them separately for much less.

The Tourette's community uses this formula based on BonnieG's research. She found references like these:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8...ubmed_RVDocSum

and:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8...ubmed_RVDocSum

Taurine supposedly helps reduce inflammatory cytokines which may cause Tourette's and also migraine.

I do notice in your signature that you take an SSRI antidepressant. This family of drugs causes muscle spasms, and anxiety in some people who use them long term.
So if you have continuing muscle problems you should discuss this with your doctor who is monitoring your SSRI.

I don't see Seroquel in you signature anymore. Did you stop it?
Long term use of Seroquel can cause diabetes. (so the magnesium and taurine are a good choice for you since diabetics respond to them favorably).
Have you had that checked? The blood sugar?
Long term use of drugs like Seroquel can also cause tics and unwanted movements. These are called Tardive Dyskinesia.
They may be permanent or not depending on dose and time used, and the person.

I don't think taurine helps with "absorption" of magnesium, but it works with magnesium in certain
tissues of the body.

Also long term use of Inderal can cause depression. I forgot why you are using this drug?

my son has always taken magnesium and taurine together but as separate supplements. seems to work for his TS tics as well as, if not better than, the more expensive mag taurate combos

Bontech makes a combo (http://www.bonniegr.com/ts-PLUS%20Mag%20Taurate.htm) as does Cardiovascular Research (available at vitaminshoppe.com and in their stores)

Ahhh Yes, i stopped seroquel because of the side effects, it was too sedating, depressing, weight gaining, and thankfully i'm doing good off it. I don't really take inderal anymore, as my pulse and blood pressure have go down over the past few months. It's still there if I need it PRN, if I'm having some anxiety or restlessness. http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails....1&pid=350&at=0

this was the stuff i was talking about, it has choline and carnitine in it, so i don't see the relation to magnesium taurate.

ugh gross i hate capsules, for some reason they always get stuck, especially if they are made with rice flour. the ones with gabapentin never gave me trouble however.

i basically have started back on serouquel 50 mg, because of intermittent anxiety and trouble sleeping. but now sometimes when I take it I get restless especially when taken in close proximity to tryptophan, which I may start to take a small dose earlier inthe day of tryptophan 500 mg. doesn't make me too drowsy so shouldn't be that bad. but if the restlessness really get up there i still have my propranol that I take PRN.

Lightbulb this restlessness

may be agitation... This side effect is reported by about 20% of patients. Its actions are too complex to predict what supplements would be helpful, at this time.

Atypical antipsychotics work on several neurotransmitters and are complex.

SEROQUEL is an antagonist at multiple neurotransmitter receptors in the brain: serotonin 5HT1A and 5HT2 (IC50s=717 & 148nM respectively), dopamine D1 and D2 (IC50s=1268 & 329nM respectively), histamine H1 (IC50=30nM), and adrenergic α1 and α2 receptors (IC50s=94 & 271nM, respectively). SEROQUEL has no appreciable affinity at cholinergic muscarinic and benzodiazepine receptors (IC50s > 5000 nM).

Hello out there...
So, migraineurs might want to try Taurine ...which might help inflamation...might help w/ migraine?????

Is this magnesium taurate? I have heard that magesium is helpful...this is a new spin on it.
With reference to migraine...how much would one take of the mag. taurate to try? How often? Where do I buy it? How much does it cost? What are the potential s/e's? Is it safe? Can it be taken with Topamax?
Can you tell that I am HAPPY to hear about this???? LOL!
