Default Large doses of vitamin C??

I am trying to figure out my neuropathy myself. I dont really know where it came from. Lately i have thought it could be related to Charcto Marie Tooth Syndrome. The reasons why i think that are that my feet tend to cramp a loooot and sometimes it is difficult for me to pull my toes or walkin ankles. Also my hands and my feet are constantly cold.

i don't have the money to get all the genetic testing so i thougt of taking large doses of vitamin c, just in case I have Charcot Marie Tooth.

I think large doses of vitamin c (about 1 gr a day or 1.5 g) wouldn't hurt, would they?

I have been taking 3000mg = 3 grams of Vitamin C daily for the past 5 yrs... As far as I can tell it has not done me any harm.

I was prescribed this amount for my RSD pain.... this was prescribed by a Naturopathic Doctor. My MD is aware of what vitamins I am taking and has told me to keep taking them.

I stopped taking my vitamins for about 3 months a while back due to lack of funds... and I noticed I was having more muscle cramps and consistent higher pain levels....

I can't say that high levels of any vitamin would help or harm you... just wanted to let you know my experience with high level of vitamin C. You may want to consult with your doctor to see what he/she believes would be a good safe level for you.

Best wishes,
Abbie

Lightbulb this is a huge subject and gets bigger every year.

This site has information on Vit C:

http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocente...inC/index.html

Scroll down to the bottom for the warnings.

What you are taking, Monica, is still below the safe upper limit for Vit C at this time.

CMT starts in the feet as far as I know. May progress to the hands.

It's best to split the dose to keep a more constant level in your system throughout the day.

I take up to 1500 - 2000 a day. I use a buffered acsorbic acid type of vitamin C.

Hello,

I am so sorry for the pain you are having. I went to Massage Therapy school and had an alternative MD as an instructor for Anatomy. He believes Vitamin C is a cure-all. BUT, he recommends starting slowly and progressing to large doses. If you get to a point where you have diarhea, back down the dose just a bit for a few days and then start increasing again as your body gets used to it. Good luck to you!

THought I would post this.

I was taking 1000mg? of Vit C a day. It was buffered but still gave me some bowel issues.

FOund this new brand maybe its all hype but no gastro issues and it helps with my adrenal fatigue when I have been too stressed.

Liv On Labs....lypo spheric virtamin C. Says its a bio available delivered via liposomal Nano Spheres. Ah technology. Sounds cool

It doesn't necessarily start in the feet. CMT symptoms can vary greatly even within the same family. There are many types of CMT as well. Mega doses of Vitamin C might not be tolerated and there is no proof that it helps as yet. There can be side effects.

There are Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) trials going on in I believe 4 locations in the U.S. I believe they are for two years. The trials are for the most common type of CMT which is CMT1A. Participants do not know if they are taking Vitamin C or a Placebo. There are some trials in other countries and some there that have been completed. Some of the participants had to drop out due to side effects, etc. There is strict criteria that people had to meet to be in the trials. Some of those people had to drop out due to side effects. It will be interesting to see the results. I'm not holding my breath though.

Why do you think that you may have CMT? Are there others in your family who do have CMT or who you suspect do?

As far as DNA blood testing, yes it is very expensive if you have to test for all the types that they can now test for. However, if someone in your family has been tested and confirmed to have a type of CMT, then that is the type that would run in the family. And then, if you still wanted to be tested, you could have DNA blood testing for just that type. http://www.athenadiagnostics.com I believe they still have a program to help with the cost of testing.

Not sure how Vitamin C can be a cure-all for anything. However, it is good for pretty much everyone if not taking too much.
