we've all heard of water as being good for you, but sometimes maybe we drink too much, take it too far. i definitely have been one to chug waters, even two at a time, and wonder why i get these acute migraines. and i notice im pretty socially awkward, which i attribute to drinking too much water, and then acting dumb. and then theres that study that say women hav more percentage of water in their bodies. im a man so that's why i say that. there's another thing that people say is that salt is nature's antidepressant.

Here is a link to one article:
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...epressant.html This topic is somewhat misunderstood. Most people in this country at least have no problems with salt deprivation. Hyponatremia is a disorder that can come from the use of some drugs and or binging on water (patients with extreme mental disorders). Hyponatriemia is a serious event, requiring medical intervention. Quote:
It most often occurs in the elderly or in people taking multiple drugs that occur in the list above. It is not common however.

"So don't start eating sodium-filled frozen dinners to cheer yourself up. The connection between salt and mood is just starting to be fleshed out, but scientists are certain about the link between salt and heart disease."

I actually logged in and wrote a post last night (my time) about Polydipsia. I ended up not posting it as I needed to do something else online before I ran out of time.
I also was going to say that there are different types of what are termed "salts". I remember meeting a friend from the USA who came to Australia briefly and a number of us over here met up with her. She had Meniere's Disease and found much relief from attempting to avoid salt in her diet. If I eat too much salt (I use sea salt flakes when I need salt added to food) my RLS plays up big time. I'll check the links you left, mrsD. Thanks for those. What about Iodine? Not too much of that in our diets over here. Do we need iodized salt? Someone told me recently that we don't get enough iodine. Once upon a time, the table salt we had here had iodine added to it. Then it went out of favour. sorry to complicate the issue. lol |
