A couple of thoughts related to the last few posts here...
A good friend of mine was dx'd with roseasa (sp?) recently. His doctor said that it was a sign of gluten intolerance and he went to a gastro doc and after some tests it was confirmed. I have always wondered about this for myself and one of my doctors mentioned it to me a long time ago. By coincidence, I went to the derm about a week ago for something else and got the same dx..Additionally, I too have oily skin (even for my age). Another doctor put me on a low carb and very healthy diet and the redness in my face is down AND I'm finally losing weight. I record my calorie intake at least every day or so on the Fit Day website. I seem to be eating very resonably...a little on the low side. This happens almost naturally when you eat a lot of vegetables. As a side note....I got it in my head that I will allow myself three wild food days a year: Christmas, my birthday and my(our) anniversary. So, this past Christmas I ate whatever I wanted including several desserts. It took about two days to feel better afterwards and for the cravings to get better. I don't have too many cravings normally....usually a small all natural fruit smoothie helps. It's still kinda hard....but eliminating sugar, bread and grains isn't as hard as other things and best of all...it is working. |

I'm SO glad you mentioned the oatmeal at McD's Bizi 'cause I saw the commercial and although I don't eat oatmeal was thinking if I was gonna cheat a tad on this diet, a tiny portion of oatmeal would be one thing I would go for and I could get some at McD's! Hmmm. Now....nope. That's an outrageous amount of sugar/carbs!
However, did you know that you can get oatmeal at Starbucks? It's really delicious. HOWEVER, I have to check the nutritional contents. By and large...oatmeal is out for me though. Faith...THANK YOU for your encouragement!!! When I was doing WW...I limited bread and sugar and that helped. Absolutely did. Very recently, I find that limiting isn't enough. Now it is essentially eliminating. I'm stricter. A friend of mine eats oatmeal for BF and then only protein and veggies the rest of the day. She is doing well....losing a little weight regularly. Another change is that I'm greatly limiting dairy and eating more vegetables...including juicing them often. Bizi...PLEASE keep us posted about any good recipes you find in the recipe book (s) you just received. Thanks!!! |

the cook book is basically a low carb cook book but more restrictive...no dairy, no grains at all no soy, no legumes including peanuts...not any processed foods at all. the pictures are pretty! and it gives some history and logic behind the diet.
I will post any recipes if I try them. bizi

I have really tried to get back on track and think I'm now in my "groove" again. It was rough 'cos once I get off track it's so hard to straighten up again. I really just want to eat healthy and eliminate certain things (sugar) completely from my diet. I've done pretty good so far but still get the craving for something completely bad every now and then. My saving grace is the fact that I don't have a car anymore! I have to make do with what I have on hand. I've been reading "The Carb Lovers Diet" book and it has some great recipes and ideas. It makes alot of sense, too.
I hope everyone is doing well. It's so hard (for me, anyway) to stay motivated during these blah days of winter. I think once Spring finally arrives I'll get a burst of motivation.

I keep taking off and putting back on the same two pounds. I think the 30 pounds I lost is gone for good. I do think there is something to be said for drinking green tea ...now if I would stop making and eating sourdough bread I'd make real progress.

Alffe, I had to give my bread maker a rest. It was just too tempting not to nibble on the fresh baked bread. And it's not good without some melted butter on it!
I think I'm doing pretty good if I stay where I am now but I'd love to lose a bit more. I wonder what it would feel like to be able to gain a few pounds and have it not matter!?

Had to say something about oat meal. There is some called steel cut at the local health food store. There is no comparrison to the flat oatmeal put out for the publis. Irish Oatmeal is in a can and is the same thing you can get for pennies at the health food store. I praise oatmeal, it did indeed help me to loose 65 and keep it off. I still eat it as much as I can. Summer can be kinda ruff to want something hot, but right now this is almost a daily thing. I also talked the other day about dried mango, YUM. The kind with sunsweet is better than the health food store, and has less sugar than the health food stores. This brand also kept the tart in it, so it is not so sugary. Try it all of you in the dieting worldGinnie
