I just found out that my daughter-in-law may have cervical cancer. But that it might be an infection.... I don't get it. How can an infection be confused with cancer? This has me very concerned. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi,
My daughter has that also. Human papillomavirus (HPV) left unchecked can turn into cervical cancer. Basically, they find an abnormal cell or cells on the cervix, then test for HPV. I'm not sure what the treatment is once it's been discovered, because my daughter is still in the "discovery" stages herself. However, the doctors don't seem too concerned, it is easily treatable from my understanding. |

(((Seemslikestitches)))...thank you so much for the info. That is kind of what I was thinking. My son is so very upset, understandably so. He was upset that they were not doing something RIGHT NOW! The earlier something is found the easier it is to treat. But anytime the word cancer is mentioned, fear tends to take over. I am trying to abate his fears some and this well help....

may give abnormal cells. This is common.
Typically the infection is treated, and the PAP is redone. One nutrient that helps with abnormal cells is folic acid. This has been known for many years, as this older article attests: http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/35/1/73

to get a B12 blood test as well. Taking folate without knowing
one's B12 status, is not a good idea. Unbalanced folate, may cause neuro damage over time. If the level is below 500, supplementing with B12 along with the folate is the way to go. In fact if you choose not to test, you should take both as insurance. The doctor can write for 1mg folic acid. Or you can buy up to 800mcg (.8mg) OTC yourself.
