Im 27 years old i have 4 kids and after my fourth i wanted to get my tubes clamped cause birth control doesnt work for me, and i get preclampsia and gestational diabetes worse with each pregnancy,,, anyways what i am trying to learn from other is their experiance after their Tubal L. for me I had mine done on january 23,2009 and immidiatly had horrible pain after the procedure and for weeks on i went to the doctors and they told me to take anitbiotics and advil , tylenol. my symptoms are like i am so tired, and so irritable and i cant explain why. i have horrible cramping and pressure in my pelvis and have been bleeding clotting or spotting without a day missed since february. I am exhausted from the pain and dont ever remember reading or being told that this would be a side effect, I no longer have insurance and cant afford to go to the doctor, specially for them to tell me just to take advil and tylenol and it will go away... just looking for some insite advise...

Gosh bluisue27, it sounds like you've been through a really rotten time.

What you describe does not sound normal. I've not had my own tubes tied but I did work for a Gyno for many years as his RN, and we saw many ladies pre and post this procedure.

It's common for women to have heavier bleeding after the op, but I don't remember anyone complaining of that much bleeding or that much pain. Any continued bleeding should be investigated as it can quickly lead to anemia. Often a curette is needed to get things back on track, but there just may be hidden reasons for it.... like fibroids or endometriosis.

I suggest that you make an appointment with the gyno who performed your tubal ligation, and let him/her know what you're going through.

Sooo true!! I had a ligation many many moons ago. And I had problems from it continuously for years to come. I'm sorry you are having to deal with this. Please take Koala's advice. I ended up with endometriosis and adhesions from the ligation. The lower end of the tube adhesed to my colon which has always caused me problems. The cells that can get released from the ligation can 'seed' inside the abdominal cavity causing the endometriosis. I also ended up with ovarian cysts that would burst every month leaving me on the floor in pain. Anemia will also occur with the bleeding. Please get help. I finally had to give in to a complete hysterectomy, after many years of suffering with it.

Wow this scares me, I have been thinking there were no side effects of the tubal, they tout it as not having any, but reading the posts here causes great alrm for me. I don't want to have more problems then I already do with spotting and bleeding-I think it's peri-menapause setting in, but since I don't know when I am fertile anymore I need to do something to prevent pregnancy.

There is a new procedure out now.No hysterectomy needed for excessive bleeding.I 'll have to ask my sisinlaw about it,in order to give you the proper name.
THey go in and do something so you won't have a period,but all parts are left in tact!
She was down for 2 days,then right back to work.

I went through the tubaligation at 23,then 3 surgeries to remove cysts.The last one when they went in,they discovered my left tube had ruptured & had to take it.
Finally,after more pain than i could bear,i had a hysterectomy 6 years ago.
So,i completely understand what you girls are goin through.

Thanks Kellie! I hope your SIL remembers the name of it. I am so tired of having to protect my clothes CONSTANTLY since I have no idea of when the next flood will be.

I had my tubes tied in '03 at age 39. The pill worked fine for me and I never had any sort of female problems, but I did have a high stroke risk - so needed to get off the pill.

Of course any surgery hurts for a couple days, so I had that. But it went very well and I had not problems, recovered fast and fully.

At 45 (last year) I started menapause. Kind of young I think, but that's fine with me.



The ob/gyn who performed the surgery for me sat me down 3 times and seriously discussed the complications that could arise. If I had experienced what you are going through, I think he would have seen me right away and done more for me than told me to take tylenol.

But when I did okay, he told me that this is th outcome we hope for - a good one. It's not always what we get, but we hope to. He just likes people to be prepared in case something goes wrong, so they know to go see him. Better to catch it before it gets out of hand.

Please get back to the doc, okay? Keep calling and speaking up until they do something and make sure you are okay.
