Default Christmas Dinner Menus

I thought I'd get this thread going now because I really don't know what I am going to cook this year for Christmas. A traditional Christmas dinner in my house is usually either homemade lasagna or ravioli! That's the way it always was when I grew up, being from an Italian family, and that's what I like to cook now. But I haven't ever tried making gluten free homemade pasta. This is a big dilemma for me, though my husband and his family don't care what I cook because they are Jewish and wouldn't probably celebrate Christmas anyways if it wasn't for me! So please, tell me what you are cooking for Christmas, and maybe I'll get some ideas. Doing another turkey seems so boring. My SIL suggested pork chops since I told her I cook a mean pork chop, but I can't really picture Christmas pork chops .

I've also never really figured out what to make for Christmas dessert. Usually we are all so stuffed from the lasagna or ravioli to even think about dessert! My Mom used to make trifle, but I never found it that interesting.

Thanks, Claire

It's our turn to host my family's Christmas wingding this year. We're having lasagna too. Probably a salad or two. I'm sure some garlic bread. We have not discussed at great lengths what the menu will be yet. Better get going on that huh?

Boy, that sounds good to me! But we haven't eaten that in years since we don't eat cheeses, so that is not quite so yummy without cheese or soy!
LOL

What about salmon on the grill (a treat in winter) with roasted garlic potatoes or a rice dish and lots of veggies and salad. This would be a beautiful presentation and a treat for the winter weather. Then everyone would have room for a rich desert too!

There are always oodles of cookies around for xmas, but I usually make a pudding pie (or a rich cheesecake if I could eat that!)
And double chocolate rich rich brownies. Make them more festive by adding some creme de menthe on the top layer (swirled in) before baking. Mmmmmm

Hot Roast Beef sandwiches is the traditional Christmas Eve dinner at my husband's house.

Christmas Day, typically a ham. Sometimes a crown roast or prime rib roast.

When I've done Christmas at home, I've done Filet Mignon, asparagus, salad, rolls

Dessert is almost always cookies.

I used to make an eclair cake, that you can form into a circle (wreath) shape, but I've never tried the eclair part gf. If that works, the filling is a french vanilla pudding/cool whip mix, with chocolated drizzled over the top. Has anyone tried making eclairs gf?

NYE is usually grilled steak [regardless of the wind chill ] that was marinaded in garlic, onion, A1, Lea & Perrins, maybe a splash of rice wine vinegar. A nice salad, steak fries... Dessert - who knows - we're usually in a food induced coma from overstuffing ourselves at that point. Maybe something around midnight when we wake up from our coma to shout "Happy New Year!".

Gosh...my turkey and corned beef sandwich just isn't doing it now... LOL!!

We always grill a turkey for Xmas. Ham is usually available too because my mom gets a Honey Baked from work. It is not GF. I am thinking I need to find an alternative to stuffing. We love stuffing but I need something easier. I am debating having Xmas at might house. Since I have been so tired for so long, my house constantly looks like a tornado hit it. I am not sure I am up to cleaning it That well, KWIM?

Reyanna posted an eclair cake recipe using Chebe bread on OBT, but I've never tried it. Here's the link:

Thanks myst! I'll check it out.

I should try making the eclair cake by just substituting flour. I think I have seen a recipe in one of my cookbooks, too. Just haven't gotten around to trying it (in five years ).

We pretty much do Thanksgiving dinner all over again. I finally made a stuffing that was great with brown rice flour bread crumbs (and no potato or tapioca starch) and two bags of frozen snow peas with chestnuts, onion, garlic, seasoning, and a cup or so of turkey broth fresh from the turkey. Still looking for that perfect pie crust recipe...
