My Mood: Getting a referral to a Psychiatrist
Trig Getting a referral to a Psychiatrist

My primary Doc is sending a referral for me to see a psychiatrist. I personally asked her too since Im thinking my anxiety issues are back. Over the past few days Ive been getting really bad heartburnish issues. So bad I had to go to the ER about an hour away as the ones near me, I dont trust. Neither does my PDoc. Well whenever my heartburn issues happen my PVCs/palps kick in. They happen so frequently that I have a hard time sleeping. So fortunately she prescribes me omeprazole. Which helps calm my heartburn/GERD issues and thus my PVCs/palps slow down. My anxiety is happening because of the PVCs/palps.

Sorry you're having these problems. 2014 was a rough year for me, I went on Omeprazole for the GERD and Citalopram for the anxiety/depression.

In retrospect I think my GERD was caused by the anxiety/depression. I did have some palps , but there's literature suggesting that Citalopram may have contributed to that, in my case.

I am much better these days, but still search for solutions for mild to moderate anxiety.

Best of luck to you.

i dont think my gerd if i actually have is caused by anxiety. i think it was caused by sodas. because i was coughing up bits of blood. it doesnt happened anymore and i rarely drink sodas anymore. during early today i was driving around paying bills/rent. i had a sour sensation in my throat but didnt feel anything. but my pvcs/palps were going off like crazy. my anxiety is definitely from the pvcs/palps issues. especially when trying to sleep when they happen.

Best wishes with your upcoming psychiatry appointment, Gethprime! I'm an older person. Anxiety is something I've always struggled with... along with a bunch of other mental-health-related stuff. I think anxiety is still a part of what I experience day-to-day although I no longer have anything to be anxious about. I think, after years-&-years of it, my body just doesn't know how to be any different anymore. I meditate, do yoga & walk & these things help.

In addition to anxiety I also have a lot of "generalized anger". I'm just always mad at everything! Plus I have bodily sensations 24 /7 that feel like restless leg syndrome except that I feel it throughout my body. Oh... & I have heart arrhythmia as well... & Meniere's Disease (an inner ear condition.) Otherwise I seem to be in pretty good shape for an old geezer! I not in treatment for any of this.

I'm not on any med's. I do have a psychiatrist I see a couple of times a year, just to keep my foot in the door so to speak. He's been helpful to me a couple of times in the past. He's offered to put me on Klonopin both for the restless leg type symptoms as well as for my anxiety. But so far I've declined.
Years ago, I used to have a lot of heartburn. But that was because I was drinking too much coffee. When I gave that up, my heartburn went away.

thanks, my primary and me were talking about cbt therapy.......with meds being the last resort. my anxiety was so bad last month that my right arms nerves would go haywire when i would try to sleep. there were times i barely had 3 to 4 hrs of sleep over 5 days. i do have sleep starts/jerks at various points on my body. fortunately i can limit them so far by having a heavy blanket on my legs and using the bedsheet on my upper body.

I've never done CBT. I believe it can be a really good therapy. California therapist Kati Morton has a video on her YouTube channel with regard to it:

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with Therapist Kati Morton - YouTube

I have myoclonic jerks occasionally. Every once in a while, one is intense enough that it almost stuns me momentarily.

CBT therapy is quite good, so is EMDR if you've experienced a traumatic event / have PTSD

Gethprime, I agree with what the others have written about CBT.

I learned it from my clinical psychologist - it has made a big difference to my staying in remission from Major Depressive Disorder and alcohol abuse.

You might like to check out CBT for Beginners by Simmons and Griffiths (2009).

It is intended for trainee mental health professionals but explains the concepts and applications of CBT very clearly.

its another term for prilosec otc. its used mainly for heartburn related issues. gerd can also trigger pvcs/palps. gerd - gastro esophegal reflux disease, sometimes called acid reflux. palps can be caused by alot of issues. stress, acid reflux, etc. everyone gets them, its just that some ppl feel them easier than others.
