I was dx'd with a Aspergers about two years ago and I was just wondering, can immaturity be a symptom of it? I have always been immature, especially around people I know, and I am not sure if it is me as a person, or maybe the Aspergers. The thing is, when I was depressed, I was not like that, but now that I am no longer depressed I am back to that type of behavior.

Hi Buffheart.
What do you mean exactly by "immature"? |

I mean like when I run up and down the hall ways and start singing the alphabet really loud when nobody (or when there is only my family) is around, or when scream and squeal for no reason. I also have a habit of clapping and rubbing my hands, and I like to bang and clap on shelves and tables, as well as my legs. You can ask my mom and she will say that sometimes I act like a 10 year old, even though I am 18. I am not that way around strangers, so maybe it is just me.
*I don't know if the clapping is related, seen as it hasn't been a problem since this past summer.

Do you feel more stressed or less stressed when with family rather than people you don't know?
Maybe it's because you feel more comfortable and relaxed to be yourself around people you know and love, like your friends and family? Sounds as if they make you happy. That's just the feeling I get from reading your message. Not necessarily the exact same thing, but my children always used to show their tics more at home than when with other people. That was because they were more comfortable to just be free with their movement and be themselves knowing they wouldn't be judged. |

Yeah, I feel much more relaxed with my family and close friends. I am closest with my mom, so I feel free to be myself around her. I don't do it around my dad or brothers, but I used to do it around my best friend (until I moved). I suppose I just feel like I can be my self around my mom and close friends.

I was never immature, but apparently immaturity is subjective.
