I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right place, but over the last couple weeks, I've noticed any time I try to do much writing (like pen on paper), the inner part of my right wrist starts to turn red and swell a little bit in a patchy fashion, sort of looks like little blood vessels or an allergic reaction. Today it started doing it into the base of my palm as well, which is where the median nerve goes. I know that I don't have carpal tunnel, but could nerves cause these minor vascular changes? Anyone else ever notice something like this? Also, nothing is touching that part of my wrist, not the pen or the paper, another reason why I find this so odd.
Thanks, Melissa |

Oops looks like we missed this one..
I don't have an answer for your question though- I have more loss of fine finger coordination and sometimes aches or pains in the back of hands or the wrist joint gets sore - but nothing that you can see like you describe. just totally guessing here -- it could be due to maybe the angles or positions your arm is in- causing a little compression on the nerve or a vein, does it fade away after you stop writing?

Just a thought that possibly your wrist is wrist side down on a table. Maybe your grasping the pen tightly (I know I do) and there is pressure from this. Take lots of breaks and every once in awhile stop and give your hand a gentle stretch and shake. Thoracic Outlet can cause many symptoms because of immflamation, nerve compression etc. All kinds of symptoms!! Take Care and try to pace yourself and respect your pain. Meaning don't wait until pain levels sky rocket or increase before you take a break and get away from the activity for awhile.
Just some thoughts, I'm sure some others will give you some helpful insight soon. |
