Dear Steve,

You said this exactly right.

The wind force was 90 miles per hour.

A Category I hurricane is from 74-95 miles per hour. That drecho was a very high Category I -- if we were comparing it to hurricanes.

Heart Steve and Donna

Dear Steve,

I'm real glad you're ok. I don't know if I ever remember in my lifetime a storm front hitting the US that hard. And it seems like it was out of nowhere.

I loved that you saw fireflies out. I have always loved fireflies. Tonight I saw the full moon finally. I keep missing my full moons, so it was nice to catch it.

I am sorry you are feeling rejected and depressed. I hope you feel better. You can write to me about it if you wish.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Donna,
good hear you are back home safe and have a home to come home to, too. Did not sound like a pleasant drive back that one.
Default El Niño/La Niña "transition year?"
The weather has been freaky everywhere it seems. Hot for starters. I am thinking there must be one of those odd global current things driving many events and conditions, like El Niño or something like that.
a quick search uncovered this (blog) article, posted July 3rd, which states:
Quote:
This is a transition year from the La Niña weather seen in 2011 to El Nino, which should take full effect by the early fall of 2012.
interesting. it goes on to speculate about the implications on drought etc.
all i know is, here, it was already hot in early June which should be comfortably warm in this area. What's more they keep promising rain which never shows up --- that said i would NOT like one of those derechos that just hit the US... yikes, i'll just keep wetting down my head with the spraybottle thank you.
I wish you had a/c waves, spraying yourself with a mist bottle doesn't sound comfortable at all.
Default Tips to stay comfortable in the heat
Hi,
Here is a web site with information about how to stay cool:
http://www.wikihow.com/Sleep-Comfortably-on-a-Hot-Night
Quote:
Keep your neck cool. It works the same way as keeping your feet cool. Try using a cooling pack that works for you, or simply just place a damp towel on your neck.
.
.
.
Wet your face. Use a damp cloth or towel to wet your face or arms. Stand in front of a fan, or blowing air (while you are still damp). This method works quickly and easily. It acts like your natural sweat, but on a quicker and larger scale.
.
.
.
Run your wrists under the cold tap. Your wrists and the inside of your arm are areas where your blood stream flows closest to the surface of your body. Running them under cold water for a minute will cool your blood down, making your whole body cooler.
Holding ice (or a cold plastic bottle of water from the fridge) on the inside of my arm (in the crook of my elbow) does work for me sometimes.
Thanks for the post Mari
I am really miserable at night in the bedroom. Even though we have
AC it always seems hot. I just can't seem to get the fan to
work well enough for the sweat and stuff.
Ugh.
Bizi
I realize how lucky I am to have AC and electricity.
I worry about my boys and their families not have central AC.
They have window AC at least. But its not exactly enough.
They both have pools in their back yards at least.
