Question question about social security disablity

I am writing in this section because I know a lot of you have social security and might be able to help me better than the other section.

About two months ago I applied for social security disablity benefits. Yesterday I received my first letter from social security and it said this

"Please come into the office with a friend or family memiber who would be willing to be your representative payee. According to our medical decision it was determined that you need someone to manage your funds for you".

So I"m wondering

When any of you were approved did you first receive that letter? Or if you were denied did you still recieve that letter?

Seems kinda silly if they are telling me to find a payee and then they are going to deny me but who knows we live in a crazy world right?

I was diagnosed with Bipolar, OCD, Ptsd, etc. Thanks

i was called in and asked a list of questions to see if i could handle my own money. the questions were easy and i passed. i don't know why you weren't given that option.

Hi, I can't tell you why in your case they want you to have a representative
payee. But my oldest son when he was on SSI, had one. It was me.

I had to follow lots of rules, and keep records of how I helped him spend his
money. I had to record this for the government every year. THey would
send me a set of paperwork to fill out every year.

But if you have been sent this then you have been qualified.

They just want you to have someone to manage your money for you.
It might be possible to work with them to talk them into letting it be
a co-thing. Some times this works too.

Congratulations.
