I am 56 and disabled and I only receive a very small amount from ss disability because I waited to long to apply. I am not illegible for ssi because of my husbands retirement income. My husband is 66 and retired. So I was wondering when can I collect on my husband ss? Do I have to wait until I am of retirement age, or can I collect on my husband ss now since I am disabled?
Thank you! ![]() |

Hi MM, Welcome to NT ! You collect on your own disability SSDI until you are 62. If you wait til age 65, you can collect 1/2 of your husband's amount. You could chose to start collecting under his when you are 62, but the amount would be less than the 1/2 payment that you would get if you waited. The link is here: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/retire2/yourspouse.htm |
