Tongue i can't believe this - i am sick - AGAIN!!!

ok so to summarize....
  • ROUND 1... crept in 17 dec... by 21 dec was KO and called in sick. absent 5-1/2 days. did not see mdoc, he would have just said sleep/rest, stay warm, fluids, mucolytic(s), aspirin as needed, etc stuff - which i did. the cough never went away. also had bouts where cough intensity was causing me to wretch and it gets worse and worse.
    .
  • ROUND 2... 29th dec... had sudden appearance of full blown "cold-like" sx in the afternoon at work. saw the substitute doc the same night. she used a stethoscope. and said tracheitis. was surprised that i could not breathe with mouth open without coughing as a result. i added the info regarding the intensity. Rx: drop the mucolytic take 6 days of Augmentin - i did and seemed ok. still coughing but that always outlasts everything.
    .
  • ROUND 3 (now)... 13 Jan... started feeling off in the afternoon at work. had cold chills, plus super head congestion, racing thoughts (happens when i get sick), confusion ... come home i have 102. fever is better now but i still do not functin very well. saw doc... interesting developments... more in a bit...

Unhappy Aww Waves

I'm sorry that you have been sick recently. When I'm sick I also feel worse emotionally some of the time. Try to get as much rest as you can. I hope that you feel better soon.

Do you have any chicken noodle soup. That's what I eat when I'm sick. I usually have it in my kitchen. BF

you have really been having a hard time. when i too am sick, i am worse off emotionally. Do you think you might have some bug that keeps on coming back? or is it the stress from the job? or lousy luck

Dear Waves,
I looked up tracheitis.
I really hope that the latest trip to the mdoc helped.

Heart Doc Visit

i saw my regular doc on friday and brought him up to speed. also said i did not go in the first time because i figured he would just say to do what i did.)

but ok, like this time he perked up a little:

- broke out stethoscope - wow! ... just lungs/bronchi, no heart of course but hey! i mean, his behind came unglued from his chair!
- looked in my mouth - tongue depressor what's that, but at least he had a peek. and used a big lamp.

DX: or rather... non dx. nothing "serious" going on. specifically he said, i do not have pneumonia.

he said with the given situation we have to do antibios. also he wanted to give me a bronchodilater to help calm the cough response which is outta whack... basically asthma meds

RX:
- Clarithromycin
- Albuterol for nebulizer
- Beclomethasone for nebulizer
- a mucolytic (choice up to me)
- an antipyretic prn (choice up t me)

OK so since
- i do not have a nebulizer.
- nobody in my family wants, nor has ever wanted a nebulizer.
- nebulizers are expensive and have to get thrown out after N uses or if it sits in disuse...... maintenancei i=PITA....

i asked the doc whether those two meds for the nebulizer dind't come in OTHER localized forms because i'd need to buy the machine and would prefer not to. hee said no and that he'd have to give me a cortisone iplll..... but that is BULL. found out both are available in pocket aerosol form!!

------------------------- ON THE OTHER HAND

i am pleased/relieved that he at least he did something *DIFFERENT* this time. and who knows, maybe this deliver method is more effectve.

so i went and plunked down the money for all this stuff, plus the stupid machine. no sense complaining someething doesn't work if youdnt ttry it!

i am slightly concerned about a drug/drug interaction between valproate and clarithromycin but ... if i start feeling drugged i'll check with pdoc on monday.

my brain has not been connective very well. like the other day i made a chicken broth with other stuff in it... only i got so confused ended up no chicken broth in it, and i couldn't find the other stuff in fron to fmy nose.

any way, i did my first inhalation, and after it, i felt like i could breathe like i hadn't in years, serious!!!!!!!! too bad that sensation lasted like, about 10 minutes and now i'm back to how i was before. well, i have a week to see if it helps and if not he said i could go right back he would try another week. at least this time he seems to be on an action track.

~ waves ~ falling asleep now

p.s. i am not generally worse off emotionally when sick and certainly not this time. since december, minus a transient mood digression here/there i have been hypo - clean up, whoohooo kinda hypo - sometimes closer to manic probably. That might have interfered with getting proper R & R..... in various ways... another story i can't see straight now gotta lseep.

lots of pppl, not just me, are getting sick over and over, miight be significantly different variants this year. the doc told me that , as well as coffee break talk.

HI Steve, Bobby, Mari.

thanks for checking in with me... i'll be back tomorrow ... really losing it here.... gotta shut down. hmmm i wonder if tracheitis is a word in English i sort of transliterated... doesn't always work. ops! Steve i have been drinking a lot of chicken broth - chicken noodle soup doesn't "exist" in this country. i make an awesome curative chicken soup, but i do not hve the strentgh for all that so i just use bouiloons in a cup.... with lots of chinger powder. nite nite all.

Can you get a new doctor. Doctors in general don't seem to be to compassionate these days. My childhood doctor was good, but the other doctors seem worn out. They made house calls at one time. Not anymore.

Heart Lost a post. Here is a re-try.

Dear Waves,
I'm sorry you are sick. . . . 'glad you went to see a doc (again) and got on some serious meds.

I guess he distinguishes pneumonia from non-pneumonia: Not serious?
What you have sounds serious enough based on his reaction to it, the meds, and the length of time you have been trying to get over this.

The antibiotic is good.
The Albuterol is good.
I'm a little concerned about the glucocorticoid steroid and its ability to effect mood even in small doses and even with Depakote on board.

umm. . . . There is no "if." Call the pdoc on Monday to let him know about all the meds. 'Sorry to remind you, but you are not well. Keep the pdoc informed. You would give that advice to anyone here.
Most importantly, the pdoc knows more about your physical status than the family doc.

You have a big bug that you body is going to fight off with the help of the meds and lots of sleep.

. . . . 'good to hear that you feel more confidence in him than you have in the past.

That is probably why he tended to you.

I hope your sleep is restful.

Waves I am so sorry that you are still so sick. My dgs has had the similar issues since Thanksgiving, but the ear issues are really upsetting on top. Same cough treating asthma...

We think it may be a mold issue causing the reoccurring problems? I hope that you can begin to feel better soon and the antibiotic helps.
Hugs to you

I am so sorry that you got /still are sick.
The nebulizer is the best way to deliver the meds. It can be used up to 4 times a day, what frequency did he prescribe for you? I am glad that he actually examined you !!!!!!and took you seriously.
Get well soon my friend.
