Hi,

I called my mom to talk to her about my editing my father's manuscript on Labor Day weekend when they visit. Normally I stay up four nights in a row reading the thing and then stay awake during the day talking to him about it. He refuses to send me materials a few weeks before their visit.
I told her that the next time he sends me his manuscript late, I will pretend to read it. I will tell him it is fine.
She agreed with my plan.

I called tdoc because I cannot wait to see her on Friday. I'm so agitated. She called me back between patients. She said that what I feel is normal for the amount of stress I have been going through. She told me to do the relaxation techniques she has taught me. I felt better talking to her.

Now I have to find a way to organize myself. . . . maybe go to bed for sleep the rest of the afternoon / evening.

I'm glad that you felt better after talking to your tdoc. Good plan for dealing with your father's manuscript.... I hope he's compliant.

My father is not going to honor any of my requests about need for sleep . . .although I am doing a huge favor for him.

My best course of action is to be passive aggressive by not reading his manuscript -- only pretending to read.


That is the only way I can stay sane. One time when he visited, I went almost completely nutso. I was so sleep deprived that I lost touch with reality.

ask hubby to intervene...wouild he talk to him on your behalf?

Hubby can help with other things regarding their visit, but not with this.

My father wants time with me on his terms.

I hope you're able to manage his demands... he sounds tough.

Tdoc asked me if it was worth it.
She seemed to say that I could drop him from my life.

Next she that I could start to retrain him
When he comes I will tell him this: "I could only read one or two chapters because you did not give me enough time to read the rest."

i like your tdoc's retraining idea. i just feel a confrontational aspect, all the same. confrontations are hard for me. and they wear me down too.

i liked your plan fine, too though! i hope it goes well for you, whatever you choose to do ... and keep us posted.
