computer: black screen

My computer clicked off while I was working and went to black. I can't get it to turn on. I lost a few recent documents -- last back up was a couple of weeks ago. I hope that hubby will go with me to the apple store on Sunday with the computer . . . probably should call him and the store for an appointment for drop off.
I am not going into that place alone --- too many obnoxious apple geniuses who are clearly working on a quota system in which they are supposed to get people in and out fast so they can get onto the next person. I hate them. They don't even know a freeeeeeeeeeeking thing abotu comptuers. They are sales people. I want to talk to a computer person . You can't talk to a techie at apple . . . . the people who are going to work on your computer are way in the back and never allowed to deal with people

Right now I'm using a little net book that does one or two things.

this sounds good Mari. i think confusion about sleep pattern prolly still beats lack of sleep! i wish you well for tomorrow.

ugh i'm sorry. i hope hubby can go with you on Sunday. my first guess is power supply. if so should not be too hard for them to fix. and if it was "on its way out" that could explain some of the other glitchy weird things you were experiencing that they told you were not known problems with the OS versions.

hang in there with the netbook. thanks for posting and letting us knnow.

Dear Waves,

Those are good ideas. I asked hubby abotu power supply. He said yes, that could be the case.

Hubby said yes to Sunday. THen I have to call apple soon before it is too late. Why can't the rest of the world stay up late so that everything I need is convenient for me? :D ;)

I HEAR YOU.

i so miss my 24-hour albertsons (5 min drive in FL, or 5 min walk in Ca) and in FL we had a 24-hour walmart which was impossible in the day time. so nice at night. no people. except for the shelf-stockers who could direct you to aisles if need be, and the cashiers - with no queues to wait in.

computer ok now

Waves,

You are a helpful genius!

When I mentioned "power supply" to hubby he said that my computer might not like the 15 minute backup battery that I have it plugged into.

. . taking a chance on power surge stories I have heard.

My computer is fine it seems. :D Next I will unplug from the wall and into a power surge protector . . . leaving the battery out of the picture entirely.

Thanks.

I'm checking in off and on but I gotta go and get some other things done tonight.
I walked .6 miles. That helped my mood. I feel alert. .. .probably should get some hard paper work done during this time window.

COOOOOOOL!!!! Your hubby is the genius here... but COOOL!!! you have your mac back!!!! COOOOOOOL!!!! :)

are you going to try to replace the UPS after you ascertain there are no other problems? i mean, in general, best to keep the system on a UPS in case of brownouts than just a surge protector.

I don't like the battery I had. It was causeingthe computer to turn off. . .
It was not suitable. I supposed I can look around for something nicer? A fancy surge protector?

I might be sleeping a little more on this med than without it.
Perhaps the med could help me more with depression.
I caught myself crying about work losses.

Hi,

Reporting on dose increase:

I raised the Gabapentin 4 days ago. I think it is helping Yesterday at work I was fine. I was handling things. Today at home I am calm and a little more up than I usually am (usual mood is low). I do feel a little agitated (my usual condition). I will stay at this dose (200 mgs) until I see pdoc in 5 days.

need to give sister and hubby an emergency plan

Hi,

Tonight hubby asked a question about work. I answered it. Then he kept pushing about something not related until I was upset. I told him he was obsessing.

After I calmed down a little I explained to him that if I ever go into the mental hospital, things will be different from how they were when I went in for the stroke because I will be behind locked doors.

When I get a day off work this week, I need to put together for him and my sister the following:

1. emergency contact for pdoc, mdoc, tdoc
2. two lawyers' names and numbers

=-=-=-
I just took my meds. I am hoping I feel better soon. Maybe I will end up deleting this post.

Quit work? Quit hubby? Go into hospital? All three? Alternative like changing name and moving?

I think I freaked out hubby last night

HI,

Hubby often speaks better with actions than with words. When I came to my office today I saw an office sized fridge and a small 900 watt microwave that he bought at Sams. Later, he had a student drop off some chalk for me (most rooms use white boards, but I need chalk in the room with a/c I found).

I'm ok. He needs to be less obessessive and I need to get more sleep. Otherwise, we collide.

M

bizi 09-26-2011 09:44 PM

I am glad that you are ok.
yes you need to get more sleep.
just agreeing with you.:o

waves 09-27-2011 02:57 AM

Dear Mari

i hope you enjoy the fridge and microwave oven - certainly convenient ... unless you already had them in a shared space and they take up office space you would have preferred "free." you can probably return them in that case.

i think that was funny on hubby's behalf.

forgive me if i found this hysterical (in both senses? :o:eek:) but i also recognized a sense of panic in it that was far from funny. i am really glad to hear you are feeling better.

i do think this is a good idea. Starting to feel like you might lose it bad enough. Add to that the fear of getting stuck in some gawful hx only makes things worse i think. Having this emergency list in place might take away a stressor that hits you at the worst of times, is what i am thinking.

i hope hubby can real in his obsessing somewhat too. and that you continue to get more sleep. i know the sleep will help.

sending lots of love and good vibes...

I highly recommend all of us making out a list of our past hospitalizations, injuries, allergies,( i list SSRI's in there) medical information that could be useful, family hx if significant, current doctors names and phone numbers, current medications and supplements, insurance information, blood type, contact information copy of living wills if we have one, share this with your significant other/family member or health care representative.
Sounds like you are going to do this.

HI,

I see pdoc later today. I am less in the mood than I normally am to
1. wake up and get out of bed for an afternoon appt.
2. drive
3. deal with him.

I also don't feel like explaining the Gabapentin to him.

Hi, Waves,

Pdoc's office called two days ago to cancel (I don't check phone messages but I did call to confirm the appt. when I got in the car about 2 miles toward his office.)

He has cancelled twice. I last saw him in May/ June.
He only sees patients in the mornings except for one afternoon a week.

M

BlueCarGal 09-29-2011 04:38 PM

Wow, Mari, that's mean. Makes me appreciate my pdoc. He met me at my pharmacy 1ce to get a script in my hands. He's really good about making sure I don't go without.

It's *itt* what you're going through. I'm sorry.

Mari 09-29-2011 05:35 PM

Hi,

He is not a youngster. I'm not sure now much longer he will keep his practice. I'm expecting that soon he will have someone else take over the practice.
The last time he canceled was due to a death in the family. Today was because he was in a car accident. The receptionist had called people on Tuesday to re-schedule appts.
I'm not sure if his receptionist was even in the office today. Someone answered. I told that person that I would call back tomorrow to reschedule.

I can't see him next Thursday afternoon because I have a routine exam for a mammo that day. I don't know if I am free the Thursday after that.

voice message from tdoc

HI,
I check my phone messages once a week: Tdoc had called . . . reminded me that our last appt was two months ago and that we can have a phone appointment.

She's a annoying because she will keep calling back until I respond. I can't schedule anything right now due to work meetings popping up here and there . . . hard to schedule appointments. I have to schedule pdoc before I can schedule tdoc.

Anyway, I'm glad she is willing to do a phone appt. I might call back tell her I need a week to figure out a time for her.

HI,
I worked all summer.
The last time I had any days off was spring break. I visited my colleague at his house to pick up his books to take over a class while he was expecting to be on medical leave. A few days later, he was dead.

I could use a vacation.
I like my students. Most are used to me . . . they passed that anxious month when they are jumpy around me.

I have an appointment with pdoc Thursday afternoon.
I'm not sure enough about the rest of my schedule to make the tdoc phone appoint. I skipped the routine mammo because I had remembered it wrong. I wish I had a secretary to keep a calendar for me.

Can you call hubby when this happens? Get a ride, call a cab? Will you?
I'm scared for you.
If you truly dont any longer know how to sleep, you must get help. Pdoc, tdoc, someone who can get to them. Think, Mari.

Or try to zero-out sensation, turn up the air, wrap yourself in a blanket, turn a fan up high, & see what happens. Maybe you don't need to remember anything. Maybe your body will remember for you.

Prayers & love.

dear Mari

i don't know how far the ride is, or on what kinds of roads, or justt how tired you are... but if you don't feel up to it, either get your hubby or someone else to drive you, or just call a cab.

just do it. PLEASE do not endanger yourself. driving sleep-deprived is as bad as driving drunk in terms of the dangers. and i wouldn't want you to have to pull off the road half way and nap... who knows where stranded on the side of the road.
