Mari,
I don't think your mac issue will be too expensive. It's not an electrical problem or issue with the computer guts.
They may even be able to straighten it out at the genius bar. They can diagnose and fix lots of problems there. Unfortunately I've been there myself.
I go online to make an appointment beforehand so I don't have to worry about lines.
