Hi,Pam,

The drums are a great idea. Do you have a picture to post?

Thank you all for caring. Here is a pic of his set:

He hasn't played it today so we'll see. He's loving it though, and it's got to be theraputic for him so that's what we're hoping will happen, that he will get better hand eye coordination and the fine motor skills will do a little growing during the coming months as he plays on these cool drums! I am so excited for him.

Thanks for sharing the picture!
what a pretty shade of blue.
They take up a lot of space, where did you put them up?

Pam

Check with the school, see if the music or band teacher. Will work with him on the drums.

This can be put into his IEP, as a part of his plan.

Good idea Donna, thanks! Thanks everyone for caring, he hasn't played again, but we'll see if we can get him playing tonight after school. They are at the foot of his bed. He loves them we can tell, but he's just shy of playing them.

Dear Pam,

might just take some time "warming up" to them. i'd love to have a drum set. i'd think it would have to be so cathartic for him. and maybe it was that very experience that somehow struck him. maybe he felt that energy and is a little uncertain about expressing it. dunno... grasping at straws here really, very much. anyway i wish him well with this, i do think it was a wonderful idea.

i also do like Donna's thought to see if he can in part be integrated with his schooling so he can receive credit and perhaps useful guidance. i would hope he'd still have times where he got to play at home, on his own ... you know for the sake of total freedom of expression.

(((hugs)))

I don't know that was weird. Here it is again:

I have to call the school and talk to them and see, I don't think they have any kind of band class there but who knows?

Pam

The high school would have band. So if not the teacher there might do some lessons with him. Or help with things.

I called and they don't have anything special like band, just media and art class where they do some guitar work with the kids, NO drums unfortunately. He's in a special needs school so it's not something they offer. Oh well, it was worth a try.
