Thanks Di i am sorry you suffer with these too.

when i only had "menstrual migraines" they were more manageable. i used to be able to take up to 800mg ibuprofen with my morning coffee and no food , hop to work and be ok, provided i took maintenance doses at first sign of more trouble. nausea was transient and the light and sound sensitivity weren't half as bad.

but over the years my migraines changed. nowadays they don't always happen "at that time" for starters, light and sound sensitivity are awful. they often don't respond to the meds - or only to megadoses, but sometimes not even then. so i am even reluctant to chew up my tummy with NSAIDS on the "off chance" of minor relief.

my stomach has also changed. i guess after years of abuse my poor tummy is rebelling.

i have yet to try naproxen sodium which is what is in Aleve which i know you take. maybe it will work better. the pharmacy gave me something to protect stomach lining which i haven't tried yet - need to check interactions.

-----------------

i am sorry you suffer with the beasties as well. quite a few of us here do. Donna, Pam, Majo... sigh.

i read an article a few years ago, different computer so no bookmark sorry, that said that migraines were more common among bipolars than in the general population. i don't recall the stats (%) but they were quite significant.

Dear Waves,
'Sorry about the migraines.

Here is one abstract with statistics about bipolar and migraines.
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science...65032798000822

Prevalence of migraine in bipolar disorder
Quote:
ackground: this study was undertaken to estimate the prevalence of migraine in people suffering from bipolar affective disorder. Methods: a headache questionnaire incorporating the newly introduced International Headache Society (IHS) criteria was given to 117 patients on the Dunedin Bipolar Research Register.
Results: a total of 81 (69%) completed the questionnaire, out of which 21 (25.9%) reported migraine headaches. 25% of bipolar men and 27% of bipolar women suffered from migraine.
Conclusions: these rates are higher than those reported in the general population with the rate for bipolar men being almost five-times higher than expected.
An increased risk of suffering form migraine was particularly noted in bipolar patients with an early onset of the disorder. This may represent a more severe form of bipolar affective disorder.

Red face possible manic switch on horizon...

i cooked up a storm today and it all came out great. i even improvised an appetizer just to use up a tablespoon of chopped parsley! LOL.

my mood was good... and i mean, goooooooooood... not totally euphoric, but clearly the flip side of depressed. giggly, bubbly etc, and quite out of the blue. (i had been improving, but not this much.)

i even missed my Zoloft dose today because my pillminder had run out. i have been having less caffeine lately though, and today i had a bit more... a consideration... except it really was mood quality. too much caffeine usually makes me nervous and jumpy, not enterprising and giggly.

i was already seeing a little improvement but it was subtle. today was anything but subtle, so it could herald a switch into mania. so i have decided to omit tomorrow's Zoloft too, and if i am still like this (or even close), i will d/c definitively. i texted my pdoc he agreed.

i guess we'll see.

Waves,

I'm a little worried. That's good you and the pdoc are on top of things.

TV stinks. I watched tv the past two days. . . . not good for our moods or for anything else.

dear waves
it is great that you are feeling good but are you going manic now? I hate to mention it. I am worried. You do sound euphoric.

I saw a very funny movie the other day at my sisters, called bridesmaids...haven't laughed like that in ages, had had a few drinks too which helped me enjoy the movie even more.
