OK, I'm gonna try to describe this as good as I can, maybe someone can help me. For all I know everyone else is like this!!!
I can never seem to allow my mind to stop. For as long as I can remember I've been like this. I have to be singing (to myself of course) or talking (to myself, I know...sounds bad) all the time. I want to stop it, but the silence seems to be absolutely overwhelming, so I just never do. When I'm talking to someone my mind is engaged on what I'm saying (of course), but when someone is talking to me I'm listening to them and still doing something on my own inside the skull. I hate it, anyone ever heard of this? Last edited by curlydawg; 10-13-2011 at 03:14 PM. |

Hi,
1. Maybe ADHD? . . .not that I know anything about that. ![]() 2. Do you feel anxious when you do it? I do understand anxiety. ![]() In answer to your question, no, I don't think my brain does that. I does other things perhaps. M |

Yes, this would be one example of what ADD would look like. Because they say you have to be doing things all the time. And you can’t concentrate. But in your instance it sounds more like you want to do stuff so you can concentrate. There is another idea. It would be sensory integration also. This you would look has checked out with an OT.

I guess since I know the voices are mine it's ok, right
![]() It's probably some ADHD going on there. Not to bad, but sometimes it seems like too much chatter. ![]() |

i agree it sounds like an ADD-like feature if it is a constant, but if it is not problematic for you, no need to do anything about it.
on the other hand if it is episodic that would suggest more of a manic symptom, especially if the thoughts seem to race... jump from one to another. in that case, or in any event if it is bothersom to you, discuss it w/ your pdoc next visit. some folks have dual dx ADD/Bipolar ... there's a questionnaire screening you can do. but having a few or even a lot of ADD-like sx does not mean you have ADD. brain function is unique across individuals and these "features" need not imply pathology. ![]() ~ waves ~ |

Dear Curly,
My first thoughts are that if you've always had this, it is more likely ADD than bipolar as my feeling is that bipolar shows up later than ADD, although not necessarily. Do other people in your family have this? If you are able to find work arounds for this, then maybe you do not need to seek med or other treatment. Still, you can let your medical professional team know about this as it helps them to have the whole picture. I know someone who goes blank when other people are talking -- kind of takes a rest until it is his turn to talk. When you sing in your head, are you any good? Do you run out of songs to sing? I can only remember a handful of songs and then I get bored with myself. M |

Waves,
It's more of a constant thing, but once in awhile seems louder or more hectic...which was when I wrote this post. It's simmered down to normal again ![]() Mari, Nobody else in my immediate family was like this to my knowledge. I was the youngest and usually drove everyone else crazy with my excess energy. You're right, it's not something that will merit any new meds. Of course the singing is good in my head! It's only when it gets outta there that it's bad? And I can't remember a lot of songs either, maybe that's a part of why it can drive a man crazy. ![]() Last edited by curlydawg; 10-15-2011 at 08:01 PM. |
