hey the gabapentin takes care of it its only 4-5 days now. just i have to remove the gabapentin or reduce it... maybe a lower amount will work i will see.

I had one this week that left me down for three days, the first day was real bad, then the following two days I was zapped for energy and had such a sensitivity leftover in place of where the pain had been I just laid in bed and on the sofa. I feel much better today, and yesterday.
sheeez i know and nobody gets it when it's "over" and you're still feeling like you got squashed by an eight ton lead weight. and light and/or sound sensitivity persists for a few days with me usually. luckily i don't often get the real high pain ones like that any more (did last month), but i still get them bad enough to medicate. Plus, sometimes even the ones not bad enough to medicate (before gabapentin when i had most of the month's worth i had all kinds) i get other sx like imbalance or hemiplasia which makes getting around a bit of a challenge, add even a mild-moderate headache which disagrees with movement, the light and sound sensitivity which are always there... and forget it. i took a bad fall because of the imbalance once when i was teaching and now my knee is messed up. i am too depressed to deal with the whole stupid frickin process of ortho + mdoc + physiatrist + mdoc + possible therapy. ankles too but less worried about them - think more likely to heal, just slowly.
Quote:
I really HOPE you find something that works for you soon. Migraines are so bad....
my stupid mdoc gave me tramadol which has serotonin interaction warnings AND is addictive AND i'd have to take through migraine duration - i have multi-migraine "episodes" once a month lasting 2-3 days. same stupid doc won't give me a triptan w/o neuro recommendation f(*#)*Q)&)(#*#())(#*%)
seeing neuro on 14. hopefully will get something resolved. and dx on paper for paperpushing mdoc to shove up his ... sorry if i am not mincing words that guy really gets to me sometimes (a lot... most of the time.)

well now that i've vented all over the place i'll go hide again.

i'm so sorry. OMG i didn't take my zoloft. thanks for reminding me. better do that. sheez.

What kind of migraines do you suffer from?

When i was having trouble at work with more migraines last year i tried it again but could not tolerate even 900mg d/t crazy side effects. I was on 1500mg of Depakote then and pdoc and i figured the combination of the two was too much. i hope that is the explanation, because....

I *REALLY* hope, now that i am back to 800mg Depakote, that i can tolerate a full 1200mg. That is the dose i found i needed for good coverage when i took it successfully as a prophylactic. (900 was not enough). Anyway and it's all i have available for now so it's worth a shot.

If it works, i'd expect to take it for a limited period - maybe a year. i know that its effects tend to poop out gradually if one stays on it.

Red face MRI for KNEE today. Ongoing migraine, complications

Hi there.... sorry been totally out of touch on this.

The MRI is today, and it's for my KNEE - ortho... from the fall.

----------------------------------------------------------
NEURO VISIT:

Neuro says no new MRI needed based on current sx (i brought him my old one).

Neuro has 2-phase plan:

PHASE 1. Find effective treatment for menstrual migraines untouched by prophylaxis. 1st attempt is with of Magnesium Pidolate, taken at specific times.

PHASE 2. Change prophylactic med to topiramate which the state covers. yippee! (well, i hope it works and i hope i tolerate it.)

Neuro was very nice and listened to everything AND asked further questions. Also cursory physical exam (eyes, arms/balance, reflexes etc).

----------------------------------------------------------
PHASE 1 PROGRESS REPORT (address menstrual migraines) :

First menstrual migraine starting yesterday.

It was bad enough I had to take the tramadol. after the second dosing, i started having side effects. the initial sedation masked the activation but all other effects are explained by excessive serotonergic activity... contracted muscles, waking bruxism, racing thoughts, vivid lucid dreaming during sedated period.

it totally screwed my sleep - i slept 1.5 hours from about 4am to 5.30 i am still having racing thoughts and am running hypo.

----------------------------------------------------------
PLAN FOR TODAY // Going to clinic for MRI w/ mild migraine etc

Hypomania Management:
1. No more tramadol for now.
2. Skipping Zoloft.

Leave for mri at 10.45. Hope to catch another nap before then. HA!

ACTIVE MIGRAINE status: continues with only mild pain that comes and goes so no med for now. will bring aspirin with me to clinic, perhaps also the codeine stuff.

They have special equiment for the KNEE, so they will NOT stick my head in a noisy tube WHEW!

Bring earplugs anyway.

um.... the regular kind... with and without aura. i don't have basilar migraines. i saw you asked about those in another thread.... i left you a visitor message on your profile page regarding that.

I think our ladies - those who responded to you in this forum - all have non-basilar migraines but you'd have to check with them to be sure.

Dear Waves,

1 I hope Magnesium Pidolate and topiramate do what you need

2 'stinks about the tramadol. I hope the hypo is manageable for you

3 good luck with the MRI. I like the small friendly machines too --- less noisy racket right against your ear
Yes to bringing the ear plugs.

Update us on your trip today if you want.

I'm so happy this neuro will give the topamax generic a chance for
you also. That has worked so well for me.

I am also glad he/she is wanting to work through the menstrual migraines
too. I don't know anything about them. I personally never thought
too see if I had any when I still had them.

But know I wonder.

Cool MRI went great, h/mania nipped but migraine(s?) continue

Hi all

The knee MRI went fine - actually it gave a pleasant sensation to the knee. Very quiet - at least with earplugs. I did manage another 1.5 hours sleep before going, and felt calmer although still in a very very VERY good mood . Also very alert with high mental acuity despite how little sleep i got. Didn't even drink my usual gobs of coffee!

When i came home i was starting to "peter out" so i figured it was safe to take a half of my daily Zoloft. I napped in the afternoon and again in the evening (migraine returning ) but at least now i am level.

Yesterday's migraine never completely resolved (this morning mild on and off, worsened later. This is its second day. Moreover, I've had twinges to the OTHER side tonight. I hope this not forecast migraine #2 in the typical set. I am going to take aspirin now, as i did last night, hoping to settle things down and at least I will get more sleep when I need it.

Thanks Mari.

I am to contact my neuro to report how this cycle went, and he will advise on what next. I can call (have his cell!), text, or email him! LOL. so cool and very helpful coz his office is 3 hours away, one way. My pdoc did tell me he was a real nice guy.

tramadol-wise, I just have to keep in mind, if I need to use tramadol again, either i have a one dose limit, or, if it's in the morning, i can skip my Zoloft preventively. Either or, but cannot mix the two. Should be alright that way. tell you what though, it didn't even cover the pain completely so, i will not be using it as a regular med. Probably going to try NSAIDs again for breakthroughs. Just trying to put that off as long as possible, for the stomach.
