I saw my pdoc yesterday and weighed in I have lost 5 pounds in 5 weeks. I basically have not been obsessed with dieting just consciously avoiding most carbs, except for lentils, and not snacking too much, eating almonds and a piece or two of dried mango slices, unsweetened. very satisfying. She seemed happy that I was Alcohol free, she asked me when was the last time that I "used". Makes it sound like it is a drug. I did not tell her that I plan on drinking for new years eve or the cruise for that matter. I told her that I thought that I had been hypomanic with the purchase of the car and then all of the drinking. She did not disagree with me. She wanted to know if my therapist suggested any groups for me, she had not. I don't think that I need to go to AA. I am doing just fine with not drinking right now, I don't think I could do a 12 step program, nor invest in the time and energy required.and the fact that I don't think I need to, most importantly.

150 two days in a row....yea, finally the scale is moving. This is my 45th day of not drinking and I have lost 8 pounds in such time. I have been eating healthy lunches, having ground turkey with onions and butternut squash soup from the health food store. It is delicious! the ladies made us a special batch yesterday. Had to buy a quart for later! Later is tonight.

Congratulations on the weight loss!

Congratulations on being alcohol free!

The healthy eating is great and especially if you are finding healthy and enjoyable foods to eat.

I am sure the avoiding carbs is helping but no alcohol is also a big factor in the weight loss. Because remember it does change your food metabolism when you drink - no food can get "burned" until the alcohol is burned off. So when you drink a lot and eat a lot then maybe even crash out, many of the "food calories" will end up getting "stored" first as glycogen ... but when the liver can't store more glycogen it starts converting that to fat.

So you are doing yourself a double favor there.

Anyway great going!

For me:
Booze = unstable meds
I dabble but I really can't afford to. I'm down about what's going on and picking up the wine bottle as a result, knowing it will inflame my symptoms. Oh for some self control.

ms manic...I was running hypomanic and drinking quite a bit. Don't know what came first the hypo or the drinking caused it but am feeling much more in control of things and glad for weight loss. IT is so easy to turn to the bottle when we are depressed. be careful and take care of yourself. At night, I have switched to healthy herbal teas and using stevia to sweeten them up. Plus I have been drinking sugarfree french vanilla instant coffee that is decafinated and I like that something to comfort me and I am such an oral person. I snack on almonds and dried mango slices, occasionally I chew gum but end up biting my inner lip for it so that is not often. I enjoy my coffee in the mornings though!
I too am almost 50 this january 1st. am self employed so work when I can and take a day off when I need it. which is not very often sometimes I can't get out of bed in the mornings so will skip my first client, calling them of course to reschedule. I usually only see 3-4 people a day, and my paper work is minimal so my stress is low and I am my own boss. have been doing this for 14 years. Don't think I could ever have a regular nursing job again, or a boss for that matter.

Thanks for the encouragement Bizi. You are right. Healthy eating again starting now. Congrats on your weight loss. I found the pounds you lost but I'm inspired to tackle the candy monster again. I used to make fruit wine and it takes a twenty pound bag of white sugar to make 30 bottles of wine. Yikes.
