Default new to bipolar

Hi
i am on here under another forum but was just dx with bipolar. I went to a Psy because my gp put me on an antidepressant and i didn't feel like it was right. I think the clue was when my brother passed in Dec i didn't cry. Any way he put me on a mood stabilizer and i have to say I feel the best i have felt in years. I wan't sure i wanted to use the new med as i had a very bad experience some years ago and did things i would not even begin to think of doing.Thankfully i am on a different med this time and I am able to mourn my brother now 5 weeks later.
Thanks for reading
Gail

Default new to bipolar

hi and thank you everyone. well it would seem bipolar runs in my family i have been able to trace it back to my GGGGrandmother on my fathers side in addition to my self ,my brother who just passed away and my younger sister as well as a my aunt and we are pretty sure there are many more not getting help. I am 54 ,married i have 3 children two of which are being treated for bipolar depression. (told you my family was full of it).I am very involved in my church and wish the grandchildren lived closer.I always knew i was not a good mother when my kids were growing up and could not figure out why.Later was told i was bipolar and put on lithium and an antidepressant which from all i have been able to figure out kicked me into a manic state and was very reckless and did something really
stupid, that was my lowest time i just wanted to die but i didn't but i also would not go back on the meds.(no i did not try to die).In 09 i fell and ruptured my achellies tendon Another long story) any way i ended up in a wheel chair for 6 weeks and when i went to return to work i was told my job had been eliminated. That was when the depression set in and my gP put me on sertraline, for the longest time i just didn't fell like it was working. My older daughter told me i was most likely still bipolar as is she.Decided to go find out and I am so like i said they cut back the sertraline and added oxcarbazepin. so i guess we will see
sorry i ran on
everyone try to stay warm
hugs
Gail

Hi,Gail,

Yes, it is good to have someone close who can help us lead to the right decisions. I hope that the Zoloft and Trileptal work for you.

becareful of your labs being monitored with the trileptal. I was on it and at a high dosage I became low sodium and anemic.
I wish you much luck with these meds.

Default Hello Gail

My name is Tracie, I am 30 and found out I was Bipolar at 18, runs on my fathers side thank you for sharing your story. I also have 3 girls with the oldest (9) taking the gene. I am here for advice on raising her better. I too feel that I do not do the best job on raising my girls and constantly fight my emotions even on meds. Though my mother knew my twin and I had bipolar and did not do the best at raising us (was mostly my older sister) I do not blame her after all I could have grown up worse or Just not cared about people (like my twin), there are days I don't like who I am and just have to remember that if I could not live with this it wouldn't have been given to me. I would appreciate being able to learn from your experiences some time. Thank you for your time. Tracie
