Question Need help with a question/ decision please

Hi,

There is a task/work shop in the state capitol (466 miles away / 7 plus hours a way) that I applied for and got.
Today's email said, "You are invited . . . ."
The criteria were not difficult but this would help me professionally because I am going to be trained and then do something for them.

When I go back to work I will have the experience, lots of info, some authority (credibility) and maybe connections. Connections count a ton and I could use some right now.

===============

I read through the details quickly but it more or less goes like this:
June 23

8:00-5:00

They reimburse travel and ONE night in a hotel room.

There might be a small stipend for the day but I did not see that.

===============

It is too far.

But part of me needs reasons why I am not going.

I see why this is hard.

There are strong reasons why you should go. Keyword: should -- that awful, dutiful, imposing, righteous, honorable semi-imperative.

This sounds like you have already pretty much made the decision, is that right?

Are you mostly needing some reasons to feel ok about giving up this "opportunity", or are you wanting something you can use as an official reason to offer them, when you write back and decline?

I can accept or decline the invitation.
Or I could delete the email and forget about the whole thing.
The "opportunity" only came up last week so I am not all that invested in it.

Still, I wish I could go.

Arrow checked the calendar

I talked myself out of it after reading your email and (DUH) checking my calendar.

I have a routine dentist appt on 23 and pdoc appt on 24 (travel day).
Then 26 sleep doc appt -- plenty to do that week without adding a road trip / airplane ride.

Those are more things to add to the already long NO column.

Thank you.

Opportunities like this might be a good thing to consider. It sounds like it would help your job status. It's good to leave the comfort zone sometimes.

I don't know what it is,but if it seems that it could increase your specialty, and it's not a long process,it sounds like a possibility. BF

Yeah, those are two direct conflicts, right there, one with the actual event, one with travel. And the third with exhaustion, lol.

Don't worry. There will be other kinds of opportunities that are more doable.

If you really wanted to go, you'd have to reschedule the first two, and it might be good to reschedule the 26th as well. And take a couple days off afterwards, if that's at all possible.

Hi, Bizi,

The project was a one time deal.
The project was useful to people -- not just to me but to people across the state.

I spent a large part of the night crying about it.
I mentioned it to hubby and he said that he could have gone with me -- either by plane or car.

Mari,

It sounds like you have changed your mind about wanting to go?

Is it too late to get on board with it?

If you already replied/declined, could you reply again, saying that you were able to rearrange your previous commitments, or otherwise "revise" any reason you gave them for declining?

I am sorry about this.

That is what I did -- sent email to accept.
I provided my phone number and said to call after 3:00 pm

I told hubby I would rather he drive the 7+ hours than deal with flying.
Flying was stressful when I last flew in 2003 and I am sure it has gotten more stressful . . . . getting a ticket and making choices about luggage, seats together, . . . . boarding passes 24 hours before via computer, . . . .

We will see what happens.
They seem to need people -- the task of getting there is difficult because the capital is remote from most of the population who might be willing to do the all day task.
