Thank you, Bizi. Keep me posted.

Are you thinking of cutting down first? For people who drink a lot of it, they do suggest rreducing a max one cup per day, to avoid rebound headaches.

I had 4 cups of tea today. I am always tired.

Mouth still burning.

Waves,

Where does it hurt?

Does the condition come close to what is discussed here?

Hi Mari,

Yes, I have googled it extensively over the past like 6 months. It could be lots of things, but my working hypothesis, given that I do have reflux, is that the reflux might be causing it.
http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-c...s/con-20029596

Reflux can cause buring up to the base of the tongue and can affect all of the mouth. Reflux can increase incidence of caries, and that is a serious concern too.

At this point, I am much more concerned about my teeth and my vocal chords than I am about the sensation. Just because I don't perform doesn't mean I am willing to give up the ability to sing. The burning is meaningful to me only because it suggests that the condition is as yet uncontrolled. If my mouth burns, my vocal chords are almost certainly getting washed over with peptic acid.

Waves,

Right. I did understand that the mouth was part of the condition or a symptom of the condition and not the source of the problem.
I was only trying to understand a little bit more.

I am sorry that you are going through this.

Heart

Thanks, Mari.

I have a whole slew of atypical gerd symptoms, but not many typical ones, so really didn't process things. Then, after the diagnosis, I've been slowly noticing and having to reprocess things. It has boiled down to a realization that this must have started a few years ago, which also means it has probably gained some momentum by now, and perhaps gotten fairly bad.

The voice thing, realizing it was probably or even just possibly related to this, quite shook me up. And it could be that I just was a bit stuffy that day, as I was ok again later, but I don't want to take chances, because GERD can destroy a person's voice. I guess this has made me more motivated to be cautious with my foods and other things.

Red face

I usually drink 2 big mugs about 24 ounces in the morning then about 8 ounces in the afternoon but not always.
I almost always have 2 mugs in the morning.
If I don't then I end up with a headache after lunch then I somehow find me some coffee and have a couple of cups in the afternoon.
I will have just one mug tomorrow morning and see how I do.
I need to drink more water!

Yeah, you're no stranger to the rebound headaches, I see. Try the one mug or even one and a bit, like drop off 8 oz at a time. It's not like it will take a long time too step down, so if you're not in a big hurry, take it easy. My experience with rebound headaches is once the headache hits, no amount of coffee will fix it...not worth it imho.

Hope you sleep well Bizi. And let me know how it goes with the coffee tomorrow.

I am doing alright with my tea, I must say. I do feel somewhat transgressive as I'm not always having my usual "nice cuppa tea". When I really require the caffeine boost I make a mugful and drink that directly. My mug holds 10 ounces, exactly two of our teacups -- simpler than brewing 2 together or in succession, but feels odd to guzzle tea.

A perk about having tea is that I don't use much sugar... only 1/3 tsp per cup. 5 calories, lol. (Compared to 1 or 1-1/2 tsp per cup of coffee).
