I knew it happened, but I wasn't sure how often. In addition, I thought it was mostly dinners out and presents.
This article seems to at least imply it is cash gifts. I didn't think this was common, but now I'm wonering about this.
Do you think they ask the Drs to lecture about a topic and strongly suggest their medication (s)?
In addition, I had no idea that psychiatrist were the doctors most likely to receive benefits from pharmaceutical companies.
I don't have a problem with doctors getting samples. It's wonderful that they have an opportunity to give samples to patients trying the med, without insurance, having insurance difficulties or some sort of financial or other difficulties.
I don't have a problem with them receiving small presents (under $100) from pharm. companies/reps.
But to receive huge gifts makes me wonder....it would seem tempting and I wonder how often this is going on.
