Heehee, I have an appt. in July anyway. But I already take medicine
for high blood pressure. And I made sure I had it all three days.
I think it was more because there was no breeze. And with my
breathing issues at times anyway it doesn't help.

I go to my pcp every three months. Oh and I had all labs done last time, and will again when I'm there.

Donna,

Certain medications can cause reactions to the heat more than
other medications can.

I will look them up to see what I can find.

medications that narrow your blood vessels (vasoconstrictors), regulate your blood pressure by blocking adrenaline (beta blockers), rid your body of sodium and water (diuretics), or reduce psychiatric symptoms (antidepressants or antipsychotics).
Hi Donna,

Above are some medications that can effect being out in the sun.:hug::hug:

Mari is right…

Do you check your BP at home to make sure it is not running too high/low? Sometimes the doses need to be adjusted or meds need to be withheld some days because BP is too low. You can ask your PCP if he thinks those meds are playing a role in your heat sensitivity, and ask for advice.

In the meantime, maybe some gatorade along with the water?

Dmom3005 06-22-2016 11:54 AM

I don't check my blood pressure but should start. Will work on it.

I don't care for Gatorade, but have been drinking it or powerade.

Yeah, gatorade is kinda gross… a little salty. You can always mix it with some water since you will be drinking water as well. Mixing in some sparkling/soda water makes it much more appealing, too.

Checking your BP right now is important because you are on cardiac meds and are having those issues with the heat. I'm glad you're going to be doing it more often :)

Dmom3005 06-23-2016 08:58 AM

No I'm not on cardiac meds. Unless you mean the blood pressure medication.

We had tornado and thunderstorms watch and warnings last night. During the
early and late evening, into the morning. I hate those kind because I
can't stay up and watch it all night.

It wasn't easy either knowing Derrick was in a apartment alone, and worrying
the worst would happen. But all seems well this morning. I am going in and
taking him to his yearly physical this afternoon.

Yes. Water pills / Diuretics. Also beta blockers.

It would be prudent to consider patients taking medications that impair thermoregulation to be in a potentially high-risk group and plan accordingly during heat waves.

:grouphug:thanks.

Yes, the BP meds are cardiac meds.

Did you want to stay up to watch if you got the storms because you were worried, or because you like watching them, too?

I'm sure you have many worries with Derrick living alone now. It must be hard  I hope that he got a clean bill of health at his physical so you have no new worries :hug::hug:
