my pdoc thinks that the naltrexone helps stop food binging. They now have an antidepressant coupled with nalrrexone for weight loss too,
can't remember what it is called.

thank you. I will ask my doctor when I see him next. I also also worried about my prediabetes
Naltrexone/bupropion (Contrave) combines an opioid receptor antagonist (naltrexone) with a dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (bupropion) in an extended-release tablet. It is labeled as an adjunct to increased physical activity and a reduced-calorie diet for chronic weight management in adults who have a body mass index (BMI) of at least 30 kg per m2 or who have a BMI of at least 27 kg per m2 with one or more weight-related comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, or hypertension. I already take bupropion. |

yes contrave!
I wonder if your insurance would cover it? Since it is new There is not a generic for yet. Some manufacturers offer discounted coupon cards for great savings. I don't know if there are any for this medication or not.Maybe??? I am wondering if I could take contrave because I am bipolar 1? I can't take SSRI's the make me manic. Even traxodone made me manic. bizi

Bobby has Medicare and for some reason, Medicare patients can't use the discount coupons and free offers from drug manufactures.
Bizi, bupropion is half of the drug combination in Contrave, and is the generic name for Wellbutrin, which is an anti-depressant. So, I would say it's not safe for you to take it. Bobby, don't you already take Wellbutrin? Maybe your pdoc could just add the Naltrexone because it would be A LOT cheaper than paying for an expensive new med... |
