We used to feed animals separately and different food based on age and health related issues. We had toothless cats and dogs so wet food became necessary.

My sons senior very small dog with few teeth will eat very small dry kibble blue buffalo small breed but mostly daily wet, called Ceaser, one little pull top plastic tub. Thankfully our only pet, a dog, is only 1.5 years and we started her (and her brother who my daughter currently has) off with brushing. They are very active so we mix wet with dry twice daily, plus healthy snacks.

Good luck. Finding the right mix can be hit or miss.
