I need to vent................I went nuts on Xmas for Dirk's daughter, besides the shopping for her and his step-son and his ex-wife with whom I am friends with via email, the wrapping, etc...............

His daughter NEVER called to Thank me. Then her cell phone broke, she had a plan with Dirk through Verizon, which was costing him a bundle - once 300.00 a month. CRAZY.

So, I go her a Virgin Mobile go phone, with 20.00 airtime, sent directly to her. She never even called me to thank me. She is almost 15.

Her mom did, but that's not the point. I was taught to always thank people, and in my day, my mom taught me to send thank you cards.

Dirk say's she is a spoiled brat. She was calling him everyday about the phone she wanted.

Well she didn't get that one, because Dirk is dropping that Verizon plan.

I also got Dirk a VM go phone, he thinks it's great.

She is supposed to come here on her break in April, then again for a few weeks in the summer.

Ok............had to get that out.

On another note, maybe because I have no children, I don't understand.

Maybe I am too much of a giver, as people say.

Right now I am just FED UP with a lot of things.

I need to decompress somehow. Little things are ticking me off too and I don't know why.

P.S. I have a VM go phone, one of the older models and always have, they work real well.

They don't have their own tower's so they use all the other phone towers, so I always get a signal and never lose a call.

I got it because I don't need another monthly bill. Plus there are plans, mine is $6.99 per month.

Guess I am just stressed.

On another GOOD note, I have taken 2 of my 22 courses with Ashworth University online. The first course I got a 90, the second course I got a 100......I love the class so much. It's actually called "Vet Assisting and Animal Care Specialist. Maybe I already posted this, I don't mean to brag, I am just excited.

First things first. CONGRATULATIONS on the GRADES. AND BRAG AWAY!!!!!

I can tell you for a fact that if you were sending my son those kind of gifts
you wouldn't get a written thank you. But you would get a card, signed
by him. And it would be a homemade card. And a phone call. But he is
different than lots of teens. He is one of a kind in many ways.

Its not anything that I technically taught him, its something he wants and
loves to do. Honestly. And to tell you the truth those are the only kind
of thanks you really want.

Next if she doesn't think its worth a thanks remember that next time you get her something. Don't bother spending the money. Get something small
that isn't as nice. And then wait and see you'll get the complaint.

Then what you do is say politely. Awe, you do have a voice, I wanted to try a experiment, to see if you knew how to say anything about a present.
So if I send something nice, you say nothing, but something that you don't think meets to your level of need or queenism. Its not acceptable.

So then remember that next time a present arrives, and see if you can remember to send a appropriate thank you. THen the present will be appropriate too the next time.

My explaination for her behavior....she's 15. End of story. You remember 15 right? I didn't want to do that stuff either. I would just move on from it. Teenagers are just that.....until they are 25 and the hormones change and they become humans.
As for your grades....that is great! Keep up the good work.

I think it is very good that you posted this...vented...talked about it and got feedback. It is good to get things off your chest, review a situation, find empathy and take in some ideas. Please try not to say things like "I will never learn." I do believe that what we think about (and also what we say) tends to "expand." So...although it sounds a little superstitious, try not to even utter those words. It might be better to say..."I had an experience that didn't feel good and I think that next time I will do it a little differently."
Perhaps in the future you might only get super nice holiday gifts for folks that you regularly exchange with and/or who exchange nice gifts with you. Everyone else, more modest gifts (perhaps ones that have meaning) and not worry so much if you receive a thank you or not. Concentrate more on folks who you are closer to and hope that things turn around in the years to come. Oh, and I think Fiberwendy made an excellent point as well. Also: Congrats on the good grades!!!!
