Saw an interesting show on PBS about our corn production and its uses, how we feed cows corn when they can't digest it well and get sick from the corn and have to be put on anti biotics...they make fat cow full of fat is our meat. then they take the corn and make corn syrup for a cheap non nutrient ingrediant in all soda pops and most foods instead of cane sugar.....one man lost 100 pounds by just stopping drinking sodas, that is all he did.
It was fascinating. bizi

Red meat is higher in cholesterol and fat...from what I have heard...most of us probably don't remember eating "good" Beef.
I have not tried the grass fed beef products...they are very expensive but I think I will try it some time to see what difference it makes. My initial guess is that it will be leaner and won't have that juicey fatty flavor...like a ribeye that is my favorite. I have had filets before and don't care for them...know that sounds crazy... Oh another reason to avoid ground beef is the higher risk of contamination from the grinding of the beef. Every surface that comes into contact with a blade runs the risk of contamination. So with ground beef.... all of it runs that risk. This is why hamburgers should be cooked well done thru out...and why a cut of beef can be Medium Rare or other , as long as you cook the sides that were exposed to the blade.... Makes sense.

Wow, I had no idea that was going on. Not good at all. Thanks for sharing this bizi. I don't drink regular soda but even so it's not good to drink a lot of soda anyway. You know in powdered creamer, the non-dairy kind they have corn syrup solids as the first ingredient? Yet it says 0 grams of sugars. Yup they slip that corn syrup in everywhere these days, salad dressings, and ketchup, all kinds of things have it.

I've eaten grass fed beef. It's not the same. I can't describe the taste. Maybe it is a little big tougher.
But I know grassfed is better for people and better for the cows and better for the environment (the corn makes the cows produce methane gas and contribute to global warming) The solution is to eat more vegetarian meals during the week. Our planet does not have enough grasslands for everyone to eat grass fed beef. Mari http://www.mercola.com/beef/main.htm Quote:

Pity the methane stinks so. I've been to farms since I was really young, there are big changes. Basically, a small-scale farm has been economically in trouble for way too long. They are all gone now. Today, though, they might just become viable again because of rising food prices. A small farm has been my dream for a long time. 2 goats, 10 chickens, herbs and veggies, and making things out of the herbs like soaps and tinctures to sell. Possibly an alpaca or two instead of goats, though, gotta move with the times and alpaca produce a gorgeous type of wool that is suitable for people with wool-allergy.
On those small farms they had a big kind of cellar in the ground with a wooden cover that all the cow dung would go to from the winter stables. It would be collected by a fertilizer plant. A whole lot of methane could by syphoned off, positively. The stink would be prohibitive for some uses but no doubt it is being used for many things. The farmers used to collect the dried patches off the pasture in summer for fertilizing other crops. |
