Hi,
I was thinking we could talk about food without waiting until a holiday. I left work around 7 or 8 pm and stopped at the grocery store. I bought California rolls, a small container of juice, a box of gluten free nut thins (crackers), and a small container of hummus for myself (other stuff for hubby.) Then I ate it in front of the computer. The hummus seemed like it might not be 100% fresh -- but I ate it anyway with the crackers. Later, hubby cut up some watermelon. Last night I stopped at McDonalds. Tonight was an improvement because everything tasted better and I felt ok afterwards. Mari |

Good idea for a thread Mari! I am getting used to cooking and cleaning nightly, just realize it's expected of me and when Jack helps it lightens the load on my shoulders. Which happens once or twice a week. Last night we had chicken & cream of mushroom soup baked in the oven with white rice. We read a recipe to make perfect rice and it's awesome.
You take whatever serving amount you are going to cook up, in our case 2 cups and normally you'd just boil water and add rice. But this recipe calls for soaking it for 30 minutes, drain the water off, as much as you can and then use HALF the amount of water it would normally call for. In our case instead of 4 cups of water we used just a little over 2. It comes out fluffy and delicious, you should add a couple tablespoons of butter too before steaming it for 15 minutes, on a simmer setting, we use low so it won't burn and since we use gas it's quite hot at the low setting. And then you leave it for five more minutes to finish cooking but off the heat. It's made rice tasty for us again! Thought it worth sharing too. Last night as had ground turkey instead of beef tacos and they were great! Tonight it's gruond turkey burgers with fries and veggies. We like the blends of cauliflower, broccolli and carrots or peas corn and carrots. Food is important to us since what we put in our bodies helps power us up and determines in a way how we feel. I find I feel number emotionally the next day when we eat out at Wendy's or Burger King, but if we do Subway or Subs at Publix it powers us up for our work outs.

Dear Bizi,
Did you say you saw Carmen?! That is so neat that you see opera. I have not been for soo long. I saw Madame Butterfly on a high school trip and Otello with a girlfriend many years ago. Do they put up the words in English? I think they did that for Otello. You could know what they were singing. I was in the healthfood store today and got stuff for hubby. For myself I got a vegetable wrap/tortilla thing that was awful. I hate half of it. Then I snacked the rest of the day on stuff like croutons mixed with salad dressing (skipped the lettuce ). M. |

Thanks Mari! I knew that the rice thing would be fun to share. Last night we did turkey burgers on kaiser rolls with baked potatoes and corn on the cob, it was awesome! Jack de-husked the corn and set it up in the steamer pot with some of the insde part of the husk to help sweeten it up.
If you've never tried adding some of that husk that is the inner huck, lighter green stuff, not the houtside husk, like wrapped back around the cobs with the silk removed, you've got to try it sometime, it sweetens the corn up delightfully! I doubted yesterday that I would have another tip to post but here I go, posting the corn trick Jack taught me! LOL!!!! I just love this thread, imagine all the stuff we're going to post over the coming weeks? Sounds like you liked that hormone free beef bizi, that's great! Too bad it's so expensive, but meat is a treat, we're lucky the stores are carrying it now. I know five years ago you couldn't find organic stuff in the groceries and now it's easier to come across even if it is more expensive. How was the Opera? I've never been to one before, but I bet it's great isn't it? I feel for you Mari, I bet that wrap was horrible, I have tasted some health food that has made my appetite run to the hills. LOL!
