My hobby transmitter antenna in a tree in the back yard got struck by lightning about a week ago. My power went out for a day,and the phone went out for two days. It was a power surge.
The antenna was blown into smithereens. It had a fiberglass shell around it that looked like shredded hay,and it was all over the place. Some of these fiberglass shreads where sticking in the ground like arrows shot into the ground, right under the tree. The lightning didn't come into my radio room because I had thirteen ground rods grounded to the antenna,so the lightning went right into the ground. I also had my antenna wire in a mason jar filled with rubber, like the rubber of a tire. I had the radio's grounded with four ground rods. So no lightning came into the house. I have another antenna that I will use. I'm not going to put another one in the tree for many reasons. If this was too technical,I apollogize. BF ![]() ![]() ![]() |
