There are some folks who say that Bipolar Illness really is on a spectrum...one with greater latitude than what is mentioned in the DSM.
Like what Mari said, what is most important is how your moods may or may not be influencing your life. And of course, if they are influencing/affecting your life negatively...this is most concerning.
From a website called "Healing Well:"
The Bipolar Spectrum

Bipolar I: Both mania and major depression (alternating)

Bipolar II: Major depression and hypo mania

Bipolar III: Cyclothymia: Milder depression and hypo mania though disruptive to those who suffer from it

Bipolar IV: Depression and usually no mania. Mania may be triggered by some antidepressants.

Bipolar V: Depression and no mania. Some blood relatives have had mania

Bipolar VI: Mania and no depression. The theory for classifying this among the "bipolar" disorders is that almost every manic will eventually crash into a depressive episode.

Have you expressed these concerns to a physician?
If there were major concerns about mania, you might at some point ask the doc about adding a mood stablizer to your meds.
How is your sleep at night? There are natural things to try like Melatonin to see if that keeps it more consistent. Consistent sleep is very important.
Keep in mind that your life right now might be such that it lends itself to ups and down. If I recall, you are a student. Right? So, you'll have tests and that is "pressure time..." especially if we are talking about a mid term or final exam.
Probably the most important thing is to find balance. Tweak meds if necessary, make sleep adjustments, find vitamins that might help, get rest when needed, keep a healthy thought....do what you can do to respond to life in a healthy, happy and productive manner. It sounds like you are doing these things. Wishing you well!

Hi blue,
My person non documented opinion, I am not a doc nor do I claim to be, lol

But, I think Bi-polar is the highs and lows, the mood swings, whatever the source is to trigger, emotional, harmonal, psycho/physical...chemical imbalance is a result... The medication attempt to control that imbalance. The outside contributing factors as stressful evironment can influance the chemical part.

So when I feel I am a very sensitive person, or a relative is a strong willed person, they both can be positive and negative influance on our moods.
The sensitive person holds it all in the strong person is like a bull in a China shop.

Then, when our chemical imbalance is off from a trigger of any nature, the person that is the bull becomes a intimadated person and the sensitive person becomes the bull.....

The trigger could be, seasonal, harmone, environment, stress, relationships. etc.
Medication keeps the sensitive worry worts from letting the clutter overwhlm the mind. The bull in the china shop everyone is out to get me and I will lay them out, it chills them.
In theory. Most of it is our self desicpline, learning coping technics, and understanding our self.

so my analagy,
Bipolar, highly functioning, rare mood swings,
Limited, rare mood swigns but difficult to shake
moderate, mothily moode swing cycles
Rapid cycles, can be in days or minutes!
Just brainstorming sme thoguhts. I would say it is any kind of research, just passing thoughts.
but, I do think if they call it bipolar, mood disorder, or depression, anxiety, a lot of it can be related.
Hugs
Di
