Hi, I am a newbie here too. So strange, I have found many intesting questions and answers in the last hour, than I have in a very long time surfing the net about fms. anyway... you were asking if anyone has had optic nerve swelling. I had cancer (don't let that scare you) and had a thyroidectomy where they took out all of my thyroid... and soon after that I started getting the same symptoms you were describing. I was sent to a eye doctor who told me that it was because I was overweight and I must have gained a lot suddenly and so forth. I did not believe a word he said cause it was not true. He even went on to say that I could go blind at any minute.... for the next three months I hardly slept at all... I just stared at my 8 year old daughter while she slept trying to burn her image into my mind.... it was awful. They finally gave me this medication that makes your feet and your hands feel like they are asleep for long periods of time.... and they were very insistant that I walk and watch my diet. I did not do the latter two. They had me coming in for different tests weekly... and one day I was all better... just like that. That is all I really know... wish I could tell you more ... but you may have enough info to ask the doctor if you have fluid behind your eyes?
Take care and hope you are going to be doing better real soon, Arrow |

skmklal ...
I don't think ANYONE here can tell you what is going on (unless there is a psychic neurologist lurking this forum). You have only been to the eye doctor -- you must next have the MRI of your brain and then the results of the MRI and the eye exam will be sent to the neurologist and HE will be the one to make sense of it all. I know it is frustrating to have to wait for a diagnosis. If you were hospitalized, all these tests would be done in 2 days at most, but when outpatient, you wait for your appointments. There are many conditions that cause optic nerve inflammation and swelling, and if the opthomologist could have made a diagnosis, he would have, but all he could to is tell you what he found. Once the neurologist has the MRI and the Opthomologist's report, he will have have the clues to start to put it all together. I hope that whatever it is, that it can be resolved by your doctors. In the meantime, I know that every last one of us can understand how you are feeling. It is scary, so scary, to not know. ![]() In the meantime, if any of your symptoms become markedly more severe, I would advise that you go to the emergency room. Teri

Teri is right; you do need to be thoroughly examined and dx'ed by your doctors, but I can tell you that I know optic nerve swelling to be a sign of hydrocephalus. This condition, known for being congenital and dx'ed in infancy, can actually occur at any age. If you find out you have it (your MRI will probably reveal it if you do), you'll need to see a neurosurgeon. A neurologist cannot treat this condition.
Good luck, and please let us know, LIZARD ![]() |

Your high blood pressure could be the culprit in a lot of your symptoms. I have extremely high blood pressure and a couple of days off my meds and I experience a lot of your symptoms.
