Well I had a nice long boring post, but lost it with my sticky fingers hitting the wrong button.
![]() ![]() OK, short question. Do you who have DSL, find that the speed slows down to dial-up or less speed? I've been having this for awhile now and they can't seem to fix it. ![]() ![]() I have DSL thru AT&T. Why can't they fix it?

Sally, I am having the same problem with Charter. They keep checking my Internet speed and saying that everything is fine. Well, no it's not. My Internet is slow as molasses. And if I call them whenever it's slow I get someone different and they act like it's the first time I've called to report it. I'm so frustrated by it. The only way to get their attention is to not pay the bill. That'll get them on the phone!

http://www.speedtest.net/ http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest It could be that school is out and more kids online...

I do the speedtests at speedtest.net, but I notice it pretty much rates the same whether my actual speed is less or more...bahhh!!
I think they delibertly play with it to get me to call, so they can give me a hard time. ![]() This wkend it went out completely and when I called, they couln't even find my acct. It miraculously came back on, after I hung up.. ![]() I was to call back this morning and talk to a specialist ![]() Oh I forgot, before my call was dropped, the machine said "let me try this" and then bang, all was good......Now you tell me they don't do this on purpose....grrrrrrrr!!!!! I told them, this wknd that, if they don't stop this carp immediately, I will change providers..but they all do this to try and sell you more.. ![]() Thanks for your help. ![]()

I've just about decided that they periodically slow down the Internet speed in order to get you to purchase the higher speed.
![]() I've gotten to where I call in each and every time it gets slow or goes completely out because I want it documented that I've got sub-par service. Because I will ask for a reduction on my bill. Sally, if you threaten to change providers they'll send you to their Retention Department where they'll offer you all kinds of stuff to keep you with them. It might get you a better rate......which is not entirely unjustified if you're receiving bad service.

Sounds like they do the same thing on cell phones or smart phones - slow it down if you are using it too much.
I'm sure they have a way to do all of that sneaky stuff ![]()

Hello,
I can't get DSL stuck with dialup, I read an article that you don't get the speeds advertised, some other countries have better internet service. |

I'm so ignorant that I don't even know the difference between all the options: DSL, wireless, broadband, high speed, cable, blah blah blah. It's all greek to me, and most not available to me anyway.
My friend has wireless and it's down about twice a week. People with DSL say it's slower than dial-up. What to do, what to do. I've been with the same dial-up provider for years. About $13 a month when you pay for a year (plus the extra land line usage). It hardly EVER goes down, and my speed is 50.6 Kbps. Not fast enough tor youtube or receiving emails full of pictures, but good enough, I guess.

I may be off topic but I'm on subtopic.

However... I looked it up. In Firefox 2 at least, if I'm trying to type an uppercase W but I accidentally hold down Ctrl instead of Shift, the window (or tab) that I'm working in will close, poof! There's also a remedy. I can click on History in the menu bar, then on Recently Closed Tabs in the pulldown menu, and get a list of tabs I've closed recently with the most recent at the top. Clicking on it reopens it. Firefox (this one, anyway) has been pretty good about restoring not only the tab but most of my post as well. If I get a blank text box instead, usually just waiting a few seconds will make the post reappear. I think I may occasionally have sped up the process by right-clicking (in the text box) and choosing "Undo" but that might just have been how long it took for the post to restore itself. As I understand it, Ctrl-Shift-Tab has the effect of restoring the most recently closed tab. |
