It's not free to upgrade, or change, but it is a good deal if you are thinking about going to buy a wireless router from a store, plus the support factor is better.
call and check with Verizon about costs when you get ready for that step.

I talked with Frontier last spring and they quoted me 59.00 for the wifi/router combo modem, but that was after I had already bought the new 79.00 D link router.
