Disk Google IE8 and windows XP

I use IE8 and my laptop has Windows XP; I have heard something about a mid-November crisis. I don't understand what it is about, if it affects me (and if so, what I should do).

If it helps: my laptop has Centrino duo

Please advise this neophyte on what actions, if any, I should take.

Thank you!
