Question Is it okay to block acces'software from dialing out?

Hi
I want to be sure theres no damage in blocking stuff Im not using at the time from dialing out to the net to its maker or to update or whatever?

I blocked them w/ my firewall config's, I dont need to go online w/ them anyway.
Stuff like printers, dvd viewing software etc...

I couldnt get each software program to set no dial out sooo??

Thanks
